I had the privilege of transporting 5 of the Lily's dogs this past Sunday to their new home. They had waited all day, watching the movers take the last of the furniture and the volunteers packing the last of the 'stuff', and now it was their turn to go!!!
They all traveled so delicately in my car - so trusting, so sweet. I teared up thinking it had been a few months since my old man Beary (my 14 year old Aussie) had crossed the rainbow bridge, and the smell of pups in the car made my heart come to life with joy from all the great trips he and I had together in that car. I felt honored to be trusted with such special cargo heading home for one last time!
Cruz was the first to arrive. He loved the barn, his little walk and then to his kennel and run. He will forever be the first dog to arrive at the 'new' place! He felt better when he saw the next two show up, Max and Precious, and then Sarah, Elsa and Greta!!
The scene in the pups' new backyard was one to behold. Everyone pranced around the yard, smelling the new smells, running on the grass with such enthusiasm. They were all very excited, very happy to be there! Sarah was curious of the noise by the south fence, and we found a horse and pony eating near it. She barked and was joined by Max. Good protectors!! Greta pranced around the yard like she had lost 5 years off her age. She was thrilled, joyful, and my heart melted as she knew it was her home! Precious even seemed to approve of all the smells, as she followed me as we walked the fence parameter and I showed her the roses - which she approved of by the way! Elsa even seemed to approve of the new yard. Although she was a bit nervous and needed to see Alice to be re-assured, but she too seemed relieved to have arrived home.
Greta and Sarah found a yummy piece of sod to munch on! I tried taking it away, but those two love treats!? Max stayed close and laid his head on my lap. He had a long day trying to maneuver the hardwood floors. Precious too stayed close as I sat and watched them hanging out and exploring. Greta figured a way to get on the deck and everyone else was very jealous! Finally they all got to come up, and that made them happy as clams! The ramp was in place so Max could make it up and all was in order. Dinner was served and everyone was famished!! I left to go home after a long day of moving and was sure they would all sleep well in their new home! (Including Alice!)
I never got to meet Lily but as Alice mentioned to me earlier that day, she was indeed looking over everyone that Sunday...and all the Sundays (and the other days) to come, furever and ever!!
Thank you for the opportunity to be of service,
Humbly,
Denise D.
