Our volunteers, “Lily’s Angels,” are a vital component of the ongoing operation of Lily’s Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary. There are many opportunities for volunteers both on and off site.

"I love volunteering at Lily's Legacy. I have volunteered at other animal shelters, and this one is by far the best. The "campus" has lots of space--a big hillside field, a smaller "dog park" and a meet-and-greet area for potential adopters. All are fenced in, giving the resident dogs the ability to wander around, run, or chase a ball. There are lots of dog beds in the barn, as well as a couple of sofas, plenty of choices for the dogs (and volunteers) who just want to hang out and relax. The kennels are indoor/outdoor, allowing the dogs to get some fresh air from time to time. It is truly a joy to be part of this volunteer community, and I look forward to spending time there." - Kathryn
"For the past three years my husband and I have volunteered here. I'm always impressed with the number of dogs that are adopted and get to live out their lives with a family that loves them. You would think senior dogs would be overlooked time and time again but not with Lily's. I fall a little bit in love with each dog I get to take care of but it's so heartwarming to be able to say goodbye because I know they're going to their forever home. "After volunteering at Lily's Legacy for a year, my wife and I adopted a 10 year old Border Collie (Cruz) from Lily's Legacy in July of 2015. Throughout the whole adoption process the volunteers at Lily's Legacy were incredibly supportive and helped us find an appropriate trainer that would help us work with Cruz. "Prior to recently retiring, I worked in pet animal welfare (Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation, then ASPCA) for 15 years managing both animal and customer service operations. I appreciate the challenge faced by homeless senior pets. When I moved to Sonoma County I checked out where I wanted to volunteer my time and donate resources. Lily's Legacy was a perfect choice for me. The team demonstrates compassion and takes excellent care of the dogs they intake.
