JR
Adoption Day for JR - his new mom, Jamie, came to take JR home to Sebastopol. Jamie works from home and is very active (she's a runner). JR’s new life will no doubt be filled with fun adventures and good times, just what this young, energetic boy needs!

Hank - formerly Simba
We love Hank and couldn't imagine him not in our lives. We're headed on a road trip to Austin for Christmas in our van so he'll be in for some hiking and fun adventures! He's quickly learning all kinds of commands and is at a healthy and happy weight.
Happy holidays and thank you for bringing Hank into our lives! ~

Blue
Blue was ADOPTED by Pamela and Bill, a couple from Healdsburg. Their adult, hearing-impaired daughter and her canine companion yellow lab live with them. Their 18 year old granddaughter also lives with them. Pamela was looking for a mellow, sweet dog that would be a compatible fit for their household. She was drawn to Blue’s “story” and thought he might be just the pup they were looking for. She was right, they knew Blue was their dog as soon as they met him. He even walks at the same pace as they do. Blue happily hopped in their car and off he went to start his new life!

Harley
Harley has been ADOPTED! Several weeks ago, Harley went home with volunteer, Roxanne, as a foster. She and her husband Ken had lost their lab this past summer, and wanted to foster Harley to see if he was a good fit for them. As we had hoped, Harley was a good boy and did not disappoint! He settled into their home beautifully and worked his way into their hearts as well.
We couldn’t be happier for Harley, he’s finally found his forever family!

Audrey
Audrey, an 11 year old Yellow Lab, was surrendered to us by her owner. Fortunately, she wasn't with us for very long. She arrived on a Tuesday and was ADOPTED on that Saturday by Paula & Russ. Over the years, they have adopted 5 Lily’s pups; Clyde, Savanna, Cali, Buddy and Koda. Sadly, Koda recently passed and they were eager to bring another pup into their home. As soon as Audrey arrived at Lily’s, Alice knew she was the perfect pup for Paula & Russ and she was absolutely right!
When they met Audrey, they instantly fell in love with the sweet girl and took her straight home. She is settling in nicely, there's lots of puppy love in the household!

Eli
Kelly & Todd and three of their five daughters came to meet Eli. Kelly has followed Lily’s for some time and thought Eli would be a good match for their family that includes a young Labradoodle. When the family walked in the barn, Eli was lounging on his favorite couch. He perked right up and was immediately the center of attention. He loved it, his tail gently thumped up and down and didn’t stop. Everyone loved him, he was their new dog! Eli proudly posed for the send-off picture with his happy family and then off he went to his new home in Livermore!
Update: Eli is doing well and adjusting to our young dog (Bebe) and cats! The cats catch his eyes, but he doesn’t chase them. He has short bursts of energy and plays around with Bebe a little bit followed by a nap on his favorite spot on the couch! We took the dogs out for a walk and Eli surprised me with how fast he liked to walk. The verdict is still out on if we’ll keep the name Eli or change it, but wanted to let you know he’s adjusting well and getting lots of love!

Shaggy
A couple of weeks ago, Lynne & Paul, a couple from Novato came to meet our pups. Their dog passed away about a year ago and they were looking for a new companion. No surprise, it was the “Shagster” who charmed his way into their hearts. He will have a great yard to play in and lots of toys. Better yet, Paul works from home a couple of days a week and Lynne can take Shaggy to work with her so he'll get lots of attention. We are over the moon for Shaggy and wish him all the best in his new life.

Yoshi and Juno
Our sweet girls have been patiently waiting their turn to have their photos posted onto our adoption board. Now, their wait is over!
Jeanette and Don, both retired, live in Novato. Their dog passed away earlier this year, (who coincidentally, looked a LOT like Juno), and their daughter, Dani, suggested they look at our website. Lucky for us, they were open to adopting a bonded pair.
When Jeanette and Dani came out to meet Yoshi and Juno, it was love at first sight. The girls will be spending their time between Novato, and a 5-acre home in Shasta. Although we will all miss their sweet personalities, we could not be happier for Yoshi and Juno and their new life!
Update: The girls are doing great! They have already claimed 1/3 of our bed at night. We are all very happy!

Chente
Lucky Chente was our first November 2022 adoption. His new mom, Elizabeth, spotted him on our website and was drawn to his pictures and story. As luck would have it, Elizabeth lives just down the road from Lily's, she came right over to meet him. Chente was so happy to see her, it was a love match from the start.
When Elizabeth came back to bring Chente home, he was beside himself with excitement and clearly ready to get on outta here! For the send-off picture, Chente wasn't interested in sitting, instead he rolled over for a belly rub!
Chente’s new home is on a well fenced country property that's also home to 2 horses, 2 cats and 1 sheep. Elizabeth works from home and has 2 teenage boys. Her mother lives on the property as well and has a German Shepherd. It's an ideal home for Chente, he’s landed with the perfect family!

Marie
Marie is off to her new home with new mom, Sandra. Marie happens to be an easy girl all the way around. She's very dog, cat and parrot social. We're so happy that she's part of a new pack and a furever home.

Chloe
At long last Chloe has been ADOPTED! Breanne & Grant and their two kids came to bring Chloe home. The family met Chloe several months ago, before she had her TPLO surgery. Chloe was especially good with the young kids and the whole family fell in love with her. They’ve kept in touch about Chloe’s progress since her surgery and were so excited that her final check-up on went well, she was good to to go to her new home (with some activity restrictions for 6 weeks.)
There was definitely a mix of happiness and tears as we bid farewell to Chloe. After the happy sendoff picture was taken, Chloe walked up the steps, without hesitation, into the back of the SUV. The kids were buckled into the middle seats, Breanne settled into the backseat next to Chloe and off they went.
We sure will miss our special girl. Chloe has been through a lot, we are thrilled she's now in a forever home with a wonderful family! Looking forward to updates.

Roscoe
Roscoe has been ADOPTED! Jim & Kathy, a couple from Los Gatos to meet Roscoe and ended up taking him home. Their last dog was a yellow lab that they adopted at 7 years old. He lived a good long life and died at the age of 12.
Hurrah for Roscoe, we're going to miss the big guy!

Echo (now Hank)
Once again, timing was everything. Echo was in the right place, at the right time when he met his new dad, Josh, who happens to be a friend of Echo’s foster mom, Janice. Shortly after Echo arrived at Janice's home, Josh stopped by to do some work on her house. He and Echo hit it off right away. In fact, Echo really wanted to go home with Josh that day, he jumped right in his truck! A few days later, Echo got his wish, Josh and his wife Melissa ADOPTED Echo (now Hank) and brought him home to Fairfield. As you can see, Hank is fitting right in with his new pack, they’re one big happy family!
Update: Hank has been settling in very nicely. We feel blessed to have our newest pack member! Thank you again for everything you do!

Indie and Finn
...Our beloved Atticus [a Lily's dog] crossed the Rainbow Bridge recently. He was loved deeply and his spirit still a presence.
Recently, Indie and Finn, a bonded pair, entered home and heart. These two have been together since puppies, but circumstances necessitated their owner surrendering them. Finn, a 10-year-old German Shepherd (110 pounds), was surrendered first to the Mendocino County Animal Shelter. Indie, an 8-year-old Shepherd/Border Collie mix (85 pounds), was surrendered a few days later to Lily’s Legacy Senior Rescue Dog Sanctuary in Petaluma.
We picked Indie up first while the owner of Lily’s Legacy tracked down Finn and retrieved him from Mendocino County. A week later the pair were reunited, Indie and Finn together again! These two buddies are very social, love people and have settled in well, taken ownership of house and contents (human and otherwise). The home is very active and full of canine love! ~ Alice & Lee

Sterling
At long last, 4 months to the day after he arrived, Sterling has been ADOPTED!
His bags were packed and he was ready to go when Jane & Paul came to take him home. He sure was happy to see their car pull up and went straight over to greet them. While the paperwork was being taken care of, Sterling made the rounds soliciting one last toy toss for old times’ sake. He’s hard to resist and got his wish. Sterling proudly posed for the send-off picture with his new family. Then he happily hopped in the car and headed home to Benicia. Our boy Sterling will be sorely missed by everyone!
Update: Just sayin’ “Hi Alice, I’m in my new digs, wanna’ tell you & all the Volunteers THANK YOU for taking care of me & all the other doggos… it’s nice to have a new Kong, a backyard, some water to drink, a little sister (Sunny), and some yummy dinner later on…plus a walk this evening, & comfy beds to choose from. Peace, Out!” ~ Sterling

Bob
Good news, Bob has been officially ADOPTED by his fosters, Yoshi & Noella. They love him to bits, but the deciding factor was whether he got along with Yoshi’s Dad’s dog, who often visits. Well, Bob did not disappoint and passed that test with flying colors.
We are thrilled that Bob has found his forever family, now he's posted on the Adopted Board!

Katy
Sweet Katie (the tan and white dog) has already found a home. Her soon-to-be new mom & dad, Teresa & Mark, spotted Katie on social media. She looked very much like their other dog who passed a while ago. The couple came with their dog, Sadie, to meet Katie. From the start, Katie was drawn to Teresa & Mark. She went right up to them and wanted to be petted. The two dogs sniffed and romped a bit in the corral and got along great. It was a good match all around.

Jack
Hurrah, Jack has already been ADOPTED! Timing was everything when, quite by chance, Jack found his new family in the waiting room at Fairfax Vet! He was there for his intake exam, Kim & Frank were there to pick up their Aussie, Sierra. The couple was immediately drawn to Jack. Abbie told them he was a senior from Lily’s Legacy and was available for adoption. It was during this, meant-to-be, encounter that Kim & Frank fell in love with Jack. They are a two-dog family and were very interested in adopting him. Their application came in the next day, everything checked out great, it was a go!
Jack had his bags all packed and was ready when Kim came to take him home. Kim & Frank are truly a dream come true for Jack. In September, the whole family is taking a road trip up the coast. They’re staying at dog friendly hotels and eating in dog friendly restaurants. Wow, Jack sure hit the Jack-Pot!

Lori
Richard & Laura, a couple from Woodland, have always rescued “old” dogs, some with special needs. Sadly, they lost their last 2 pups earlier this year and were looking for 2 new pups to join their family.
When Richard & Laura came to meet our pups and they ended up falling in love with Lori. The feeling was mutual. Lori was ready to go home!

Dino
Dino is finally and happily adopted! Yep, you read that right….after 4 ½ months our boy Dino is off to his next big adventure with his new dad, John. John is a retired appraiser and lives in Santa Rosa. He came to Lily’s 3 times to meet dogs and he always came back to Dino as the one. He just loves his energy, personality and good looks. On John’s third visit, he made the decision to make Dino his dog. We were all thrilled it was finally Dino’s turn to pack his bags and waltz out the door with his new person.
When John came to pick up Dino it was such a happy day (though bittersweet) for everyone, but most of all, for Dino. He hopped right in the car, laid down and was clearly, ready to go. John headed out with Dino happily in the back with the window down, so we could all wave and blow kisses. Wouldn’t you know it, Dino was staring out the window on the other side! He had already said his goodbyes and was looking forward heading down the lane to start his new life!
Update: We are really happy. Dino is a good dog.

Mama
Mama, the 7 year old Aussie mix, wasn't with for very long. She fast tracked through Lily’s in record time and has already been ADOPTED.
Once again, timing was everything. Just before Mama came to us, Megan & Bill sent in an application and mentioned they had a lot of experience with herding breed pups. As soon as Mama arrived, we called them and they came right away to meet her. It turned out to be one of those “love at first sight” moments that was just meant to be. It also happened to be Megan’s birthday, so Mama was a special gift for her. The next day Mama went to her new home in San Anselmo.
Update: She's great, settled in and a huge hit with everyone she's met. They all have commented on her incredibly calm demeanor. She's getting multiple walks a day, so hopefully her weight will drop down. She went to a friend's house with us tonight - settled in right away! A happy girl!

Angel
Angel was only with us very briefly. Angel is a 12 year old Golden who was living in SoCal with Rochel, a woman who took Angel in when his family could no longer care for him. She had hoped she could keep him, but due to her housing situation she could not. Rochel did some research, found Lily’s and drove him up to Petaluma. Angel has had his intake exam, his lab work was good but he is very overweight. At a hefty 96 lbs. he needs to lose a good 20 lbs. This will greatly improve his mobility and help with his arthritic hips.
Angel arrived at the Sanctuary and the very next day he went home with Helen & Kurt, former adopters of two of Lily’s pups, Sunny and most recently Kenai (June 2020).
Update: Angel had no problem with the uphill path to the house. He went in and settled in like he had always been there. Kurt went out to get something from the car and Angel already wanted to know where Kurt had gone.

Sadie (now Angie)
There was a lot of interest in Miss Sadie. The best match was Namani, a Registered Vet Tech who lives with her parents in San Jose. They have a senior Lab mix and have been looking for another pup for their family. Nanami saw Sadie on Instagram and called right away. She and her dad, Mike, came Saturday to meet Sadie. All went well, Sadie quickly charmed her way into their hearts and they knew Sadie was their new girl. Smiles all around for the sendoff picture. They loaded Sadie in the back seat, attached her seat belt and off they went home to San Jose.
Update: Shortly after Sadie arrived at her new home, her new canine brother, Brad, posted an announcement on Instagram @ dogthebrad ….
📢BIG ANNOUNCEMENT📢
Today I met my new sister! Her name is Angie (formerly Sadie, now short for Angelina because my name is Brad 😂) We are slowly getting to know each other but I'm sure we can become the best of friends! Thank you to @lilyslegacyseniordogs for letting this beautiful girl into our family! They are amazing!

Merlin
Merlin’s fosters, Nancy & Brec, have officially ADOPTED him. We are very happy for Merlin and we’re sure his best buddy, Ollie, is too! Ollie is blind and was needing a new canine buddy. Fortunately, Merlin is very dog social and the two dogs took to each other right away, it was a mutual good match.

Fortunately, Magic was only with us a short time. She worked her Magic and found her forever home in less than a week. Her new mom, Debbie, is a second time Lily’s adopter. She adopted her first Lily's pup, Brandy, in March 2020. Sadly, Brandy recently passed away.
Debbie reached out to us to let us know she was looking for a new companion. Alice immediately sent her pictures of Magic, thinking she might be just the right dog for her. She was right, Debbie was very interested! When Debbie and her daughter Kelly and Kelly’s dog, Billie, came to meet Magic, the two dogs got along great and magically, it was love at first sight for Debbie. Then off they went, home to San Rafael to start their new life together.

Summer
Bev & Joe have known about Lily’s for many years and have followed us for a long time. They are retired, have a dog and a cat and like having two dogs in the household.
Bev & Joe came with their dog to meet Summer. The two dogs got along great, the couple fell in love with Summer and decided, on the spot, that they wanted to adopt her. Bev & Joe were so excited to take Summer home with them to Rohnert Park.

Betty
It’s official, Betty (now Daisy), has been ADOPTED! She started out as a foster-to-adopt with Nance and her husband Joel. It didn’t take very long for Betty to find her way into their hearts. She fit right in and quickly became a beloved new member of the family.
Daisy sure looks happy and content, another Happy Tail!

Suki
We are over the moon that after 4 ½ months, Suki has found his forever home. His new dad, Scott, spotted him on Facebook and fell in love. Wednesday, he came with his mother to meet Suki in person. He did not disappoint, the meet and greet went very well! Suki made the rounds demonstrating his endearing habit of sitting on each person’s feet. Needless to say, Scott was totally smitten, Suki was all he had hoped for and more.
On adoption day, Scott came to bring Suki home. They loaded him in the back of the car, Scott sat in the backseat to be closer to Suki for the long drive home to Fairfield. Suki’s new family includes a 12 year old Havanese, a 7 year old Standard Poodle and 2 cats. Scott and his wife and mother all live together so Suki will have someone home with him most of the time.
Update: So far, so good, Suki is doing fine, settling-in well with his new family. And, believe it or not, we've been told Suki shares a bed with the male Havanese! Wow!

Bella
We didn't think Bella would be with us for very long and we were right. One week to the day, Bella was ADOPTED.
Bella's new mom Terry came to meet our dogs. She is retired and has had Labs in the past but was open to all dogs. When Terry met Bella it was pretty much a mutual love at first sight!
When Terry came to take Bella home, she was very emotional. She wanted to make sure her former family knows how much loved and well care for she’s going to be. Bella happily hopped in the car and didn’t look back as they drove away.
Update: Bella has settled in beautifully. She’s completely at ease and is feeling right at home. And she has completely captured my heart! 🥰. What a love! The past two mornings I have been awakened by the sound of a madly thumping tail, and when I open my eyes, I am greeted by this adorable smiling face that’s excited to start the day! Then she’ll run and get her ball. She sure loves fetch, and we’ve been doing a lot of that! Yesterday we took our first walk in the neighborhood, which will be part of our daily routine. She was checking everything out, sniffing where all the neighborhood dogs had been. She’s so good on the leash! She seems quite interested in the pool. Tomorrow, I'll be taking her into the pool with me to teach her where the steps are.
It is very obvious that Bella came from a wonderful, loving home. I want Bella’s family to know that they don’t have to worry. She will be loved and well cared for with me. 💕

Vasi
Vasi recently returned to Lily’s because her owner could no longer care for her. Fortunately, Vasi was only with us for 4 days before she was ADOPTED!
Vasi's mom, Annie, met and fell in love with her the day after she arrived. When she came back to take her home, it was a very hot day. Vasi patiently waited in the cool barn for Annie to come through the door. After a happy reunion, Vasi hopped right in the car (with A/C running), laid down and was ready to head home to start their new life together.

Sammy - now Annie
Sammy has been ADOPTED! As we had hoped, she was only with us for a short time, 7 days to be exact, before her forever family found her.
Linda & Paul, a couple from Sebastopol, came to meet our dogs. Their beloved Lab had passed recently and they were ready to open their hearts and home again to another pup. They were immediately drawn to Sammy even though, at first, she was a bit skittish around Paul. He was so understanding and patient with Sammy, she soon came around to him. The next day they came back to spend more time with Sammy. The visit went well and they knew she was their new pup. Linda and Paul are both psychologist, Paul is retired. They will give sweet Sammy (now Annie) a loving home and the good life that she deserves.

Precious and Maggie
Precious & Maggie have been ADOPTED together! We're so happy here at Lily's!
Here’s how it happened….Alonso & Virginia live on a large country property in West Petaluma. It is a family compound with their daughter, son-in-law and teenage grandkids living there too. The couple lost their last dog about a year ago and recently started looking online for a pup who was “seriously” a senior, like them! When they spotted Precious & Maggie, a bonded pair of seniors, the search was over. Not wanted to miss out on adopting them, they came right over and were instantly smitten. It was a perfect match. Tuesday they came back to bring Precious & Maggie home. The girls were very glad to see them and got right in position for some belly rubs and love. They were one, big happy family!
Update: The girls have settled in nicely. They love their outdoor space but don’t like the cows. They’ve accepted the extended family with open paws and now the grandkids want to come over more often! Alonso reports that Precious sleeps with him and Maggie with Virginia. All is well in their household.

Diesel
Annie & Ken, a couple from Santa Rosa, had been following Diesel on Instagram. Their previous dog was a shepherd mix they adored. When Annie & Ken came to meet Diesel for the first time it was a definite “Yes”, right from the start....Diesel was their new dog.
Boy was Diesel excited to see his new mom again when she returned to take him home! After the send-off pic was taken, he happily hopped right in the car, ready to begin his new life.
It sure looks like Diesel has found the perfect home. Annie is a Certified Personal Trainer & Running Coach and works from home. Ken runs a Special Ed program. Diesel will have his people with him most of the time. We are over the moon for Diesel, his forever family is just what he needed and well worth waiting for!
Update: Diesel's day one in his new home. He was great on the car ride home. A little anxious when we first got here, but we spent some time hanging out together in the yard and he settled right in. He took a nap on his new dog bed after some play time. We even practiced some sit, stay, come and he was perfect at it! Already feels like we’ve always known him. Planning on taking an evening walk when it cools down a bit.
Thanks so much for the beautiful work you are all doing! We will keep in touch!

- Olaf goes home!
It was Olaf’s BIG DAY, he travelled “in style” to his new home in Portland, OR. Alice brought him to the Petaluma Airport to meet up with Ken Wayne, KRON 4 Evening News Anchor and pilot. He had graciously offered to fly Olaf to his forever family in Oregon. We bid Olaf a fond farewell and kissed him goodbye one last time. Then Ken lifted Olaf into the back seat of the plane, got in the driver's seat, taxied down the run way and took off into the clear blue sky for the 2 ½ flight to his new home. Olaf’s new mom & dad, Sheri & Buck, were there to greet him of course. It all worked out perfectly.
Huge thanks to Ken Wayne for making Olaf's journey home possible!
Update: He's a keeper! He slept well, and discovered the toy basket. He had a great time inspecting/playing with each item in it. Like a squirrel, he tucked them all over the living room. Adorable!
Max
Max has been ADOPTED! Sherry & Michael, a couple from Forestville, spotted Max on Social Media and just knew he was their new dog! Their application, references and home check all got two thumbs up, they were good to go.
They came to meet their new boy and bring him home. Max did not disappoint, he charmed his way into their hearts in no time. It was a meant to be match! As you can see, rather than sit for the send off picture, Max was more interested in belly rubs from his new mom & dad. Then off he went, home to Forestville with his new family.
Update: Max, the wonder dog, doesn’t beg at mealtime, doesn’t bark, plays fetch without a tug of war or keep away. Runs for the ball like a young one! I found the perfect dog. No excessive licking hot spots, no chewing, no digging. Emu and dog are ok. Getting acquainted. Great on leash. We got the Poster Child of Rescue dogs. Sleeps all night. Big Love!!

Cole & Char
Cole & Char arrived together at the Sanctuary on March 22nd, 2022. Coincidentally, exactly 5 weeks later they were both ADOPTED (separately) on the very same day, April 27th, and by adopters who both live in Santa Rosa! Cole Cole’s new dad, Ron, is a retired gentleman who has always had a dog. He adopted his last dog, JJ, in 2009. Sadly, JJ very recently passed away at the age of 17. Ron needed a new companion in a big way. Ron came to meet several of our pups, spent time with each of them and then went home to think about it. He came back for a second visit and at the end of the day, chose Cole. It is a good match, they are perfect for each other. Ron took his boy home to Santa Rosa to start their new life together. Update: Cole is doing great. Hangs out in the office with me, on the couch. Sleeps on a dog bed at night. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Char Char’s new mom & dad, Deedee & Mike, are retired and were looking for a senior Lab. They called about Char and came to meet her at her foster home with Lily's volunteer, Barbara. All went well, they absolutely loved her. Soon after, Char went to her new home in Santa Rosa. Update: She is settling in quite well here. She is much enjoying her walks …sniffing, looking & listening to birds. She is a great walker, eating well, using the doggie door w/no problem & sleeping well. She hasn’t wanted to get up on the couches or the bed, but no worries. We are sure that will come in time if she chooses. Yesterday she was out back w/us while we were trying to plant some veggies. Just lay down & made herself quite at home. Char is just a treasure! |
Tara
We’re so excited that Tara has been ADOPTED by one of our own, new volunteer Janet. She has always had Shepherds in her life and absolutely loves the breed. Coincidentally, Tara arrived at Lily’s around the same time Janet started volunteering. It was meant to be, Janet fell for beautiful Tara in a big way.
Janet brought Tara home to start their new life together. And what a wonderful life it will be. Janet is retired, Tara will be her constant companion and take her everywhere she goes.
Update: Tara is doing great. She and I just got back from a trip to Jenner. She got alone with my family and lots of kisses for everyone. Short walks and cookies have her tail wagging!!

Maybelline and Jordy - a two-fer!
Maybelline & Jordy were owner surrendered. Thankfully, they fast-tracked through Lily’s into their new home in record time. In less than 24 hours the lucky pair was ADOPTED, coincidentally, by a pair of sisters, Lori and Judy.
Lori had originally contacted us after an online search for a senior dog. She lost her 16 year old Lab last August and wanted to help another senior Lab. Lori was just waiting for us to find a Lab or 2 for her and her sister, Judy, with whom she lives. As soon as we knew Maybelline & Jordy were coming in, we called Lori and she and Judy came right over. Some things are just meant to be, it was a good match. Smiles all around for the send-off picture and then off they went home to Pleasanton.

Hobbs
Hobbs, a9 year old Lab mix, was living in a foster home in the East Bay for the past several months. Well, Hobbs is no longer a foster pup, he’s been ADOPTED by Bertha & Tony, a couple who adopted Lily's pup, Chief, in January 2019. Sadly, Chief passed away about 5 months ago.
Earlier this year, Bertha called to let us know they were ready to look for another pup. We thought Hobbs might be the perfect dog for them and we were right! Yesterday, Hobbs said goodbye to his foster mom and headed home with his new family. Another Happy Tail!

Casey
At long last, Casey has been ADOPTED! We will miss our Golden Boy, but are over the moon he now has the forever home he's been waiting for. Here is Casey’s Happy Tail!
Casey has come a long way since he arrived at Lily’s with his “brother” Wally, five months ago. Both pups were very overweight and quite unique looking with their close shaved coats. From day one, this adorable pair stole all our hearts. Over time, a healthy diet and regular exercise helped them lose their excess weight. They had more energy and were very happy campers. Then Casey needed to have a benign anal mass removed. Post surgery, he stayed at the vet for over a week. Thankfully, Wally was fine without Casey around, he truly blossomed into an independent, confident pup. We knew then that Wally would be fine being adopted separately. Within days, that’s just what happened, he was adopted.
When Casey returned from the vet he was so happy and easily settled back in. He loved hanging out with the other pups, especially the “ladies”. He became our barn "greeter", welcoming everyone who came through the door. Needless to say, there was a lot of interest in adopting Casey, but the perfect match wasn’t found until Bill & Donna came along. They met Casey and fell in love. Due to prior commitments, they couldn’t take him home for several more weeks.
Friday, Casey was given a bath so he would be all ready to go when Bill & Donna came Saturday to bring him home. Everyone looked pretty darned happy for the send off picture!

Lindy and Sheba - a twofer!!!
Our lucky pups are Lindy & Sheba. Yep, you heard that right, they were ADOPTED together! Their new mom, Margaret, had visited Lily's earlier this year, but didn’t find “her” dog. When Lindy arrived, Abbie reached out to Margaret and recommended she come quickly because it was doubtful Lindy would be with us for long. Well, Margaret came right over to meet Lindy, and fell in love. While she was there, she also met Sheba who happened to be lounging on the couch looking adorable and sweet. Margaret knew Sheba was a hospice pup and was taken by her endearing spirit. Then the idea came up that perhaps she would like to take both pups! Margaret went home to think about it and the next morning let us know she wanted to adopt Lindy & Sheba! Thursday, Margaret came back and took the girls home.
Update: It’s totally wonderful here. They get along great with each other and are exploring and enjoying the place. Love them dearly. They are fabulous. Challenging but fabulous. I adore them both.

Joelle
Good timing and good luck worked wonders for Joelle! Miss Joelle was at the vet when Margaret came to meet our pups. Luckily, she decided to come back again to meet Joelle when she returned to the shelter. The post surgery Joelle was clearly feeling better and turned on the charm. She happily rolled on her back seeking belly rubs and gave kisses. It worked, Margaret was smitten and ADOPTED her on the spot!

Betty White
Tina & Jeff and their 12 year old maltipoo, Zoe, came all the way from Hollister to meet Betty. They had been following Lily's for some time, waiting for a pup to come along that would be a good fit with Zoe. At first, it was a little touch and go between the two dogs. Luckily, after a couple of walks around the driveway together, they were fine. The adoption was a go! Send off pics were taken and goodbyes said. Then they headed home with Betty in the backseat with Tina and little Zoe riding shotgun in a pet carrier.
Update: Betty didn’t make a sound on the way home. She is getting along great with Zoe. All is good.

Gypsy
Gypsy, the comeback kid, has been ADOPTED! Sylvia & John came with their Chihuahua, Joy, to meet Gypsy. She was her usual exuberant, friendly self and wanted to play. Joy happens to be a therapy dog and is comfortable with all kinds of dogs. The 2 dogs were a good match and, of course, Sylvia & John were smitten.
Gypsy is one lucky girl. John works from home and Sylvia works part time so she’ll have lots of companionship. Also, Gypsy not only has a new canine buddy but 2 feline housemates as well!
Update: She’s perfect, couldn’t care less about the cats!

Alder
Alder, an 11 year old Golden, only briefly set-paw at the Sanctuary and then fast-tracked to his new home. Here’s how it happened....
When Alder's mom could no longer care for him, she wanted to be sure he found a great home. We knew just the person who could give him that, one of our former adopters, Charlotte. Two weeks ago, Alder's mom contacted Lily's and we met Alder. He is a super sweet, gentle boy - definitely a Lily's pup. A meet and greet was arranged and it was love at first sight for Charlotte. Done deal.
Update: Great first day, 5 short walks with the old man, naps in between. Evidently, my singing puts him to sleep, all is great!

Bill & Susan. They had been looking for a smaller sized dog for some time, the right one just hadn’t come along. Then a friend sent them a picture of cute Carly and their search was over!
When they came to meet our beloved pup, it was truly a love fest. Carly was “workin’ it” as only Carly can. Bill & Susan were totally smitten and knew Carly was their girl. Before they could bring Carly home, they needed to get supplies and set up their home for her arrival.
On Adoption Day it was clear when her new mom and dad came to pick her up that she was ready to bid Lily’s Legacy adieu. Carly never looked happier and more relaxed. She has been patiently waiting since July 5th, 2021 for her forever family to come for her. We are all overjoyed for Carly but it was bittersweet to say goodbye to our sweet girl. At her send-off, there was not a dry eye to be found!

Minnie
Happy Dance #2 is for Miss Minnie! She went home with Rose & Dawson. They had lost their beloved senior Pittie mix last April and felt that it was finally time to have a new pup join their family.
Fortunately for Minnie, when Rose Googled “Senior Dog Rescue”, Lily’s Legacy popped right up AND was located in Petaluma where they live! Minnie caught their eye. They came with their 5 year old son to meet Miss M. All went well, Minnie was great with the little boy and quickly won over Rose & Dawson. So they returned to bring Minnie home. When they walked in our door, Minnie ran right to them giving welcoming kisses. After the paperwork was taken care of and goodbyes said, Minnie waltzed out the door, hopped in the car and off she went.
Update: Minnie is doing so well! She’s currently enjoying her new yard and relaxing more. She was a very good girl on her walk too.

Chloe was only with us for one whole week. Just enough time to get all her medical needs taken care of before she went to her new home.
Her new mama, Joannie was very excited to bring her new girl home.
Update: She walked right in like she’s always lived here and Georgie loves her. I already love her!!!! ❤️

Wally
Wally has been ADOPTED by Sharon and her partner Rae Lynne. Their beloved dog passed away last year and they were looking to adopt a smaller dog. Well, they came across adorable little Wally on Facebook. Their cousin Barbara, a Cuddler at Lily’s, told them Wally was the perfect pup for them and she was right! Wally is now living a dream life at the Fountain Grove Lodge LGBT Retirement Community and doing great.
Update: We can't thank you enough for our wonderful boy Wally. He has checked out the whole house. He has been out to our Lodge pet park. Wally eats like a champ and of course loves his treats.

Lady
Hang on to your hat and firmly cross your paws...we have BIG NEWS....Lady has been ADOPTED!
Her new mom, Tessa, grew up on a ranch in Oregon and has always had dogs. She works from home and has been wanting to have a dog in her life again. Tessa spotted Lady on Petfinder and was drawn to her picture and write-up.
Saturday, Tessa came to meet Lady. The visit went very well, Lady really liked Tessa and vice versa. It was a good match. Tessa went off to shop and stock up on supplies for Lady. Sunday, she came back to bring her home. Lady wasn't keen on having a send-off picture taken, but Tessa was happy to oblige!
Update: Lady is settling in better than I thought she would. We’ve gone on a walk and she likes looking out the window.

Daisy D
Daisy D. finally found her perfect match with Ken & Sara. They’ve been talking about adopting a dog for the last 20 years! Well, they took the plunge. Daisy is going to be very happy with her new parents. They’re an active couple that have lots of friends with dogs, so Daisy is going to have a busy social life. She also gets to go to their other home in Oregon, she'll be traveling in style. They’re having a roof rack installed, so Daisy won’t be cramped on the car ride to her “vacation abode”. We all think Daisy has landed in the perfect home. We’re pretty sure, she thinks so too!
Update: We feel we won the Elder dog lottery with Daisy. What a sweetie. She walks on a leash well, etc etc. Rough trip home for her…very stressed and then would not leave her dog bed until we realized the tile floor made her slip and freaked her out. So, we got “runners’ with backing that grip and then she began to explore right away! It is such a huge change for her! Day by day, we hope she loosens up a bit as she relaxes over time and bonds with us. But we are so happy to have her!! Thank you for all that you do!!

Lucas - our first adoption of 2022!
We knew Lucas would not be with us very long and we were right, he’s been ADOPTED. Crystal & Ryan had recently lost their beloved Golden and were seeking a new companion. They spotted Lucas on Instagram and immediately sent in an application. Home check and references were all good.
They came to meet Lucas and fell in love, it was a perfect match! Hurrah!
We sure will miss Lucas, so glad he's finally gone home. Looking forward to updates.

Zuma - our final adoption of 2021!
Zuma wasn’t with us for very long. She was ADOPTED by longtime volunteer, Catrin! Zuma arrived Wednesday, 12/22. Thursday, when Catrin came for her evening feeding shift she met Zuma and it was love at first sight. She reminded Catrin so much of her beloved Ava, a Lily’s pup she adopted in November 2015. Sadly, Ava has long since passed and she was the impetus for Catrin to start volunteering at Lily’s.
The next day, Catrin brought husband Brad and 1 of her 3 dogs to meet Zuma, all went well. After the holiday weekend, Catrin came with another of her dogs to walk with Zuma. Again, all went well, it was a go! Last Wednesday, Catrin brought Zuma home!
Update: "Zuma has a lot more energy than I anticipated for an 11-year-old dog. She loves to play. She emptied the toy basket on Day 1, one item at a time, and proudly placed them in a pile in front of the Christmas Tree. She enjoys a game of tug with me; she’s quite strong and usually wins! She is extremely food motivated, which makes for pretty reliable recall, as long as I remember to bring treats on our walks. Zuma is very sweet, snuggly and snoozy once she’s exercised and fed...She’s a very nice addition to the household."

Solo & Leia
Solo & Leia were ADOPTED just in time to be home for Christmas. Their new mom, Venona, is a professor at SRJC in Petaluma and lives close to the campus. As soon as her kitchen remodel was completed, she was so happy to finally be able to bring Solo & Leia home.
Update: "We are all doing well. Right now Leia is curled up next to me and Solo is sleeping on one of the dog beds. I think they've got the idea that they're staying here now and their personalities are becoming more evident and they seem more relaxed. They both follow me everywhere, but Leia will lay down and wait to see what's happening next while Solo stays within inches.
They are both very lovable and affectionate and love their walks. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to love them."

RJ
RJ came to us in mid-November, 2021 from the Kings County Shelter. Not long after he arrived and his medical needs were taken care of, he had an Adoption Pending. Due to his new family's prior travel plans, RJ stayed with us another week or so. The big day finally came on December 9th. RJ was ADOPTED and headed off to his forever home in the East Bay.
Update: All is good in RJ’s new world, he's living a great life with a Mom & Dad who love and adore him.

Mel
Mel, like RJ above, came to us from the Kings County Shelter. Shortly after he arrived, Mel came down with kennel cough. Thankfully, that’s all cleared up and he's been ADOPTED!
Pat & Chris, previous adopters of Bravo (April 2020), braved the thick fog and cold to come all the way from Vacaville to bring Mel home. He was so excited and enthusiastically greeted his new mom & dad with a non-stop wagging tail, burrowing his head into their outstretched hands. Mel had their hearts from that moment on. The paperwork was taken care of, goodbyes said and off he went to his new home. Mel will have about a month to settle-in before his double Total Ear Canal Ablation surgery.

Coda
Coda, a 9 year old Aussie mix was surrendered because his mom was critically ill and could no longer care for him. She was heartbroken, but relieved knowing he was now in good hands at Lily's. Coda was only on campus for several hours (in the office). At the end of the day, Abbie brought him to Fairfax Vet for his intake exam. He’s a healthy boy, just needs a dental.
While Coda was at the vet, calls were made to help find Coda a new home. Thankfully, that’s just what happened. Coda was ADOPTED and went straight from the vet to his new home in Redwood City! His new mom, Lisa, is a school teacher and has 3 adult kids. The timing couldn't have been better for Coda, Lisa will be home the next two weeks during Winter Break from school.
Update: Coda is now LaCoda. So far, so good, he's settling right in with his happy new family!

Bo
There was double good news for Bo! The biopsy showed a small combined cyst and low grade mast cell tumor. It was completely excised and is considered cured, yeah! Then there was even better news, Bo has been ADOPTED!
Rachel & Phil, came all the way from Tahoe to meet him. They had previously adopted Lily’s pup, Logan, in November 2016. He has since passed and they were looking for a new pup to join their family and be a good companion for their other pup, Ellie. We were pretty confident that Bo was the perfect dog for them and we were absolutely right! The meet & greet could not have gone better, it was a happy love fest! They loaded Bo into the car and headed back home to Tahoe.
Update: We are home. Everyone has met. Lots of tail wagging. Now they’re outside walking around in the snow. Bo acted like he has been in the snow many times and was so excited to wear his new jacket. Perfect gentleman. He loves Phil and is his shadow.

Ace
Ace is Home for the Holidays. Hurrah!
After fostering Ace for 3 weeks, Blythe and Joe happily became Foster Fails and made Ace a permanent member of their family. All of us at Lily's are thrilled beyond words, and so grateful to Blythe & Joe for giving Ace a second chance at a good life in a forever home. We are so happy for our Ace of Hearts!

Arvin
"Arvin is the new love of our lives! I knew he was a sweet dog when we met but have been overjoyed to learn so many new things about him. He is loyal almost to a fault, smart as a whip, obedient, happy and friendly. He loves to go on “expeditions”, to the beach or the forest or at least down the road or out in the field! He’s pretty happy with whatever we decide to do as long as we do something. He’s a master frisbee chaser and is very forgiving when I 'toss it like a girl', two feet away. He’ll also go after tennis balls and driftwood at the beach. We can’t wait to take him for a swim, as we heard he loves that too. Until warmer weather then …. it’s frisbees and walks.
I can’t believe my luck in getting this wonderful boy from Lily’s! Thank you, Lily’s, for the introduction! "

Bunny
Miss Bunny has been ADOPTED! Her new mom, Anna, lost her beloved dog in the Spring and was ready to find a new companion. She saw Bunny on our website, came to meet her and no surprise, fell in love. She is just what Anna was looking for, a medium sized senior with a sweet disposition, that’s our Bunny!
It is an ideal living situation for Bunny. Anna is a writer and lives in an apartment on her parent’s country property on the outskirts of Petaluma. She's home most of the time and when she’s not, there is always someone around. It was bittersweet to say farewell to Bunny, but we are over the moon that she’s found her forever home.
Update: "She seems to be getting comfortable and is eating very well which is good to see! We had a bunch of family for Thanksgiving and she cozied up to everyone very easily."

Roscoe
At long last, our boy Roscoe has been ADOPTED! It all started when Nancy & Emerson read the fabulous article in the Press Democrat about Lily’s Legacy. They had lost their beloved dog 6 weeks ago and longed to bring another dog into their family. They spotted Roscoe on our website and immediately called to inquire about adopting him.
On adoption day, Roscoe was very happy to see his new family and it was clear, they felt the same. They came with a whole new wardrobe for Roscoe; new leash, harness and safety belt harness. He scrambled into the car and proceeded to think he was going to drive. He did get harnessed in and didn’t even look back. He was out of here the minute his new family appeared. ❤️

Buster (now Oliver)
Buster, a 9 year old Lab mix, fast-tracked through Lily’s in just 2 days!
He's had quite a journey...
After Buster’s owner died, he and 2 other dogs were found abandoned in the house and taken to the Los Banos Shelter. The other 2 dogs were placed, Buster was scheduled to be euthanized. Thanks to Lily’s and a collaborative effort, that did not happen.
One of our Lily's Angels, Paul, drove 150+ miles to Los Banos to pick up Buster and take him straight to Fairfax Vet. Due to terrible traffic, he got back too late so Buster spent the night at Lily’s Board Member, Jody’s home. The next morning he was dropped off at Fairfax Vet and that afternoon arrived at the Sanctuary. The next day, Denise (his new mom), saw on a friend’s Facebook page that Buster had been rescued by Lily’s. She immediately called Alice and inquired about adopting him. On Thanksgiving Day, Denise took Buster (now Oliver) home!
Update: "Oliver has seamlessly blended into our small family; so much so that it’s hard to believe we’ve added 85-pounds of Happy Black Lab to our modest home. It also speaks to his manners as he glides effortlessly up on the bed or couch to take the same exact place as our recently departed beloved senior, Fred, would take. His older Lab “sister”, whom we adopted in August, casts a sidelong glance at him and shakes her head. She stood back & watched him for about a day, now they act as if they’ve been together forever. My daughter and I are smitten and still cannot believe that last Monday was supposed to be his last day on Earth. It was no fluke that I brought him home on Thanksgiving Day. So many precious dogs are waiting to be saved in animal shelters across the country. We are so thankful we have one of them!"

Violet
Miss Violet has been ADOPTED. Her new mom, Diana, previously adopted Abby (fka Sierra) in April 2018. Sadly, Abby passed away in February. Diana was now ready to open her heart and home again to a new companion.
Diana first heard about Violet from her friend, Mary, who happens to also be a Lily’s Cuddler! She was very interested in Violet and Saturday came to meet her. From the start Diana was smitten. Violet went right up to her; it was mutual love at first sight! When it came time to leave, Violet hopped right up on the back seat and laid down. Then off they went, home to Healdsburg to start their new life together! Another meant to be match!

Daisy
Daisy has been ADOPTED. Her new mom, Elise, is an experienced Shepherd person and loves the breed. She hasn’t had a GSD for several years and had been looking for one when she found Lily's. A couple of weeks ago, Elise came to meet Daisy & Lady. She liked them both and went home to think about it. In the end, she chose Daisy.
Daisy has been in her new home in Sonoma for about a week now. We do not yet have an update and are keeping our paws crossed that no news is good news!

Shamus
Shamus has been ADOPTED by Ronna, a former Lily’s volunteer. Her dog died recently and she was lonely without the patter of four paws in her house. She lives in San Rafael and has a friend with 3 Chihuahuas temporarily living with her while her house is being remodeled.
Ronna met Shamus at Lily’s several weeks ago and was very interested but couldn’t take him right away. Last Friday, she was so happy to finally bring him home. So far so good, everything is going well, Shamus is dearly loved.

Caesar
Lily's likes to try and help all the dogs that need rescue. Some stories are more complicated than others. Caesar, the yellow Lab, was one of the more complex stories.
We were contacted by a young man, Aaron, regarding his parents’ 9 yr. old Lab named Caesar. Aaron lives in New York, his parents and Caesar lived in SoCal. His parents were going through some personal changes and could no longer care for Caesar, so Aaron, on his parents’ behalf, reached out to Lily's Legacy as a possible place for Caesar to land. He sounded like a great dog, so we were all ready for Aaron's dad to drive Caesar up to Lily's. In the meantime, a friend of Aaron's posted Caesar on his Facebook page. He was spotted by a woman named Jeani in Tucson, AZ that had recently lost her 6 yr old Lab to cancer. Jeani figured out that Caesar was coming to Lily's. She immediately called Lily's and filled out an adoption application. After speaking to Jeani and her husband, Lee, we realized it would be much easier for Lily's to do all the groundwork and just have Jeani & Lee pick Caesar up in SoCal instead of coming up here. And, Caesar would get to go directly to his new home. So, we did the vet and personal reference checks for Jeani & Lee and a virtual home check. Everything was great.
Caesar is now in his forever home with Jeani & Lee and a sweet young Shepherd mix named Max. We like to think of Caesar’s rehoming as another good placement by Lily's Legacy, in a roundabout way, of course.
Update: He’s such a sweetie. He is getting along well with Max and we are so happy we brought him into our home. Thank you so much! ~ Jeani & Lee
Nola (now Trixie)
Good news, Nola has been ADOPTED. Her new mom, Tammy, previously adopted Izzy (July 2020) as a companion for the family's 13 year old Lab, Coal. Sadly, Coal recently passed and they all missed him, especially Izzy.
Labor Day Weekend, Tammy, her daughter Jessica and Izzy came to meet Nola. As we had hoped, all went well with everyone, the adoption was a go. After the send-off pictures were taken and goodbyes said, they loaded the pups in the car and headed home to Brentwood.
Update: Nola (now Trixie) has made herself right at home, there’s been no issues. Thankfully, Trixie and the cat have zero interest in each other! Izzy & Trixie have bonded beautifully and both are happy. She is discovering toys and loves running around the yard doing zoomies with them! She’s already been to the dog park and met her grandparents and loves both of them so much. She is such a good girl. We are grateful (especially Izzy) to have Trixie in our family.

Faith
Charmian & Christophe, a young couple from South San Francisco, had been looking for their “first” dog for some time. Christophe grew up with Shepherds but they were open to all kinds of dogs. On Labor Day they came to meet several of our available pups. When they met Faith, it was love at first sight, she was the one! Her gentle, sweet nature stole their hearts and it was a mutual good match for Faith as well.
Faith has been in her new home for a week now. She is doing great and is much loved. She’s slowly settling in and feeling more comfortable in her new home each day. Mom & dad work from home, so someone is with her most of the time. The condo has a nice enclosed patio as well as lots of paths to take daily walks in the neighborhood.
Faith already has her own Instagram, faithfullyfaith_.

Oso
Today was an Oh-So happy as well as bittersweet day, Oso has been ADOPTED. Cynthia & Chris (Chris pictured, in gray) initially fell in love with Oso on Instagram and then even more so when they got to know him in person over several visits. Oso is a lucky boy, his new mom & dad “get” him, love him and are willing to work through his various quirks to give him the best possible forever home. Chris is a banker and works from home, Cynthia is a second-grade teacher. Their home is quiet and has a nice backyard that Oso can access anytime. Sounds ideal for our special boy.
Update: He is doing a lot better than I was expecting him to at first. Was easy to get him in the yard/house. He found his safe space in my office and he’s loving right up to us.

Jake
Jake has been ADOPTED as well! His new mom, Jodi, previously adopted Rumour (Shayla) in September 2019. When Shayla recently passed away, Jodi was heartbroken. She made plans to come down from Oregon in mid-August to visit family and meet our pups. Jodi arrived Thursday, spent the afternoon getting to know all the available pups. She left at the end of the day to "sleep on it". Friday morning we were thrilled to hear that Jake was the one! Jodi came by to take care of the paperwork, pose for send-off pics and take Jake on a test drive in the area. Jake passed the test with flying colors. Saturday morning Jodi came back, loaded Jake into her car and off they went on the long journey home to Oregon.
Update: On the ride back, Jake did great. He stayed in the back, up and down some but overall really good, especially considering we got stuck in 45+ minute massive traffic jam on 80 E, literally moving a couple of feet at a time. Ugh. We made it home, Jake checked out the house and yard and had some food. He’s pictured in the small bed, the others are larger. He likes the toys!

Achilles
Achilles, a 7 year old Shepherd/Lab mix from SF Animal Care & Control has been ADOPTED. He came to the shelter when his owner was hospitalized. Three weeks later his owner passed away and we gladly took him.
Achilles was given a clean bill of health at his intake exam. Thankfully, he was with us for less than 48 hours when Rose & Todd came all the way from Yuba City to bring him home. Rose & Todd are the wonderful family who adopted our beloved Spot in March 2020. They gave him the best life possible until he passed in April. Sadly, Rose & Todd lost another pup just 6 weeks later. Timing is everything, Achilles needed a home and Rose & Todd needed a new pup to love.
Achilles has been with his new family for one week now and is settling in quite well.
Update: When we first go to bed he is laying at the foot of our bed on my side of the bed. When I wake up he is laying on the floor on my side. He's settling in and likes to watch over his toys. I gave him a new ball. Always brings it back into the house and always puts it back on the same dog bed. Sometimes he just sits near and watches over it. ~ Rose

Curly
Miss Curly has been ADOPTED! Her new mom, Pat, previously adopted Bella (August 2020) and Stevie (now Quinn, March 2018). Bella recently passed and Pat was looking for a new friend for Quinn and her other pup, Kacie. That new friend is Curly. She has been in her new home for a week and a half now. So far, so good, she is settling in well with her new pack.

Jenks
Jenks has been ADOPTED! Anne & Nick came all the way from Los Altos Hills to meet our pups. Their dog had passed several months ago and they were looking for a new family member. They met Jenks, Faith, Curly & Buddy and loved them all. It was a tough decision, so they went to lunch to think it over. When they came back the decision was made, Jenks was the one! He hopped right in the car and they headed home.
Update: When we got home, Jenks examined all the corners of the house and outdoor area, frequently coming back to us for assurance and pets, freely given. After dinner he finally collapsed in our family room while we watched TV. I put an old dog bed in a corner of our bedroom which he immediately understood to be his bed, sleeping on it all night, except when one of us got up.
Jenks is very alert and seems to be very intelligent, and took quickly to us. He may need basic training as he seems to not recognize any English commands. For now, I am using hand motions as I had with our last deaf dog.
All-in-all he has the prospects of being a great family member: loving, responsive, and food oriented which is helpful for training. We are very optimistic!

Buddy
Our boy Buddy has been ADOPTED. His new dad, Jim, spotted him on-line and thought he might be a good friend for his 10 year old Black Lab, Cody. Home check and references checked out great. Saturday Jim brought Cody with him to meet Buddy. All went well, the two pups got along famously, it was a good match all around. Jim is retired and lives in Larkspur. Best of all, he is home most of the time, perfect for Buddy. Another Happy Tail!

Moonshine
Judy originally took Moonshine home as a Foster-To-Adopt. She finalized their adoption and reported, "Moonie is such a dear old soul, can't help but fall in love when he looks at you with those eyes. He's learning to live in the house-loves his super large memory foam dog bed and doesn't want to lay down anywhere else. He is friendly to all dogs and people of all ages and loves to go out and use that super nose to search for raccoons and other game. He is DNA tested to be 50% Treeing Walker Coonhound, 12-1/2% American Fox Hound and the rest is mixed hound breeds-so he is purebred hound! and has all the best characteristics of the hound group! Such a treasure." ~ Judy

Sophie
Andrea & Peter spotted Sophie on the Lily’s website and fell in love, sight unseen. They didn’t care that she might have cancer (she doesn't thank goodness!) or that she was a little chubby. To seal the deal, they needed to be sure Sophie was a good match with their two other pups Dr Watson (14+) & Miss Marple (8). Everything went fine with Sophie and the two pups during the meet and greet so the adoption was a go! This is quite a fine looking pack!

Temma
Liz and her kids Ava and Josh came all the way from Belmont to take Temma home. Aren't they a darned
good-looking family? We know Temma's face doesn’t show it, but inside we know she's smiling with happiness that she found her forever family. Her new life is going to be great!

Gemma
When Maria and her daughter Elizabeth came to meet Gemma, they hit it off right away. They fell in love with ALL 112 pounds of Miss Gemma and didn’t care a bit that she is 40 lbs. overweight. She is, dare we say, their perfect gem!

Buddy - now Finn
Buddy no sooner arrived at Lily’s right before his soon-to-be new mom, Connie, got there. She had come all the way from Pacifica to meet him. Connie had lost her pup last August and felt a connection with Buddy; they really bonded quickly. The rest is happy adoption history!
Connie reports, "He is the sweetest dog! He loves to take walks - we walk three times a day! He’s great with dogs - all dogs - he goes right up to greet them! And he loves people! He hasn’t made a sound so I have no idea what his bark sounds like. He just finished his meds - his appetite is great - he is getting rid of his diarrhea - not perfect yet but getting there. He’s been to the ocean at low tide- into the water just to his feet. He sleeps with me, which I love!"

Hank and Snoopy - a happy foster fail!
These two delights originally went home with Dandi & Doug as Foster-to-Adopts. Dandi & Doug previously adopted Lily’s pup, Mocha, in March 2019. (Sadly, Mocha has since crossed Rainbow Bridge). Well... Hank & Snoopy’s foster home is now their FOREVER HOME! These lucky boys get to be loved on a large country property with lots of animals. The family includes 3 dogs, multiple cats, chickens, other farm animals + even young grandkids. It sure looks like the boys have landed in just the right place, an environment much like the ranch they grew up on. The brothers are doing great. They’re happy + healthy, enjoying a good life! This is senior adoption we are privileged to be a part of.

Connor
Yoko and her family had been looking to adopt a senior since their beloved dog passed last year. Yoko was referred to Lily’s by a former volunteer who also happens to be a GSP lover! Yoko and her son came to meet Connor and fell in love. He was just what they were looking for, a good family dog with energy and a great personality.
When Yoko came back for Connor, he was deeply engrossed in stalking lizards (one of his favorite pastimes!) in the corral. Amazingly, when Yoko came through the gate, Connor stopped what he was doing and ran right over to her. It was almost like he knew she had come to take him home. He happily hopped in the back seat of the truck and off they went home to San Rafael.
To be honest, we were a little concerned about how some of Connor’s little idiosyncrasies would fly with his new family. Well, we now know there’s no need to worry, Connor has hit the jackpot! They love him unconditionally, warts and all!
You can "follow" Connor on his Instagram account, connor_likesto_point. Here's a recent post...
I'm back from a grand time with my new dad. We went on walks, sat in the water, played with a ball and I peed on some strangers and I got to ride in the truck. Life is good!

Prince
Andrea & Matt came from Napa with their two young kids, aged 2 & 4, to meet Prince. The meet & greet went very well, Prince quickly won them all over with his personality and charm. He was especially good with the kids, gentle and sweet. They stayed for a while and then went home to think about it. The next day we were happy to hear the decision had been made....they would love to have Prince be a part of their family! Andrea grew up with Shepherds and loves the breed, Matt was on board too!
Update today: He has been great and settled right in!

Double your pleasure, Double your fun, Two Labs are better than one!
Exciting news...our two Labs, BUDDY & PEPPER, were ADOPTED together and went home to Portland OR.
Since they lost their beloved Lab in January, Joanne and her husband had been looking to adopt a senior Lab. Over the years, they have participated in Guide Dogs For the Blind Puppy Raising program and adopted several GDB Career Change dogs. When Joanne spotted Buddy, she was very interested and made plans to fly down from Portland, rent a car and drive back with him. When we told her about our new Lab, Pepper, Joanne was open to the idea of possibly taking Pepper as well. We had our paws firmly crossed. As we’d hoped, when Joanne met energetic Buddy and mellow Pepper, it was a fait accompli! After the send-off pics were taken, good byes said, she loaded the two pups and all their “stuff” into her car and headed home to Portland. Hurrah, a Double Happy Tail!

Glory
Glory Halleluiah....Miss Glory has “left the building”!
Thursday Linda came to meet Glory. As soon as Glory came into the corral she was unusually attentive to Linda. It definitely helped that she had homemade, dehydrated chicken in her pouch! Glory's legs don't work so well, but thankfully her sense of smell is still going strong. It was a good match, Linda happily took Glory home as a foster-to-adopt.
Linda has been involved in rescue for many years. She's retired and currently has 7 pups in her pack. She and her husband (as well as the dogs) divide their time between Carmel, their primary residence, and Hopland. Linda uses a holistic vet and is already thinking about ways to keep Glory as healthy and comfortable as possible. We are over the moon that Glory is in such good hands.
Update: All the introductions went well. Our dogs quickly discerned that Glory presented absolutely no threat, and Glory was her tolerant and gentle self. She explored our inner yards and poked around the first floor of her new home, getting lots and lots of tiny treats as encouragement. After breakfast, very slowly she followed me and her pack mates through four yards, stopping many times to rest herself. She even managed to negotiate the step up to the rear deck unassisted, walked through the house to the front deck, and lay down to work on her tan. She seems to have familiarized herself with her new digs and is starting to relax a bit.

Shadow
Shadow has officially been ADOPTED. His new mom, Christine, has previously adopted several Lily’s pups over the years, most recently Foxy in March 2019.
Last weekend Christine came to meet Shadow, clearly they both liked each other. Christine couldn’t bring him home just yet as he needed to be neutered. That was taken care of Wednesday and Christine picked him up at Fairfax Vet and brought him straight home.
As you can see, Shadow is one happy boy. He came from the streets of Vallejo and now is in a wonderful forever home in the Novato hills! Another Happy Tail!
Update: Shadow is doing well, fitting right in with his new family. He's getting along great with his canine sister as well as the resident kitty. Alice dropped off some meds today and observed firsthand just how well he's doing, two thumbs up!

Koda
Koda, a 10 year old Chocolate Lab, has been ADOPTED. He was owner surrendered when his owner became ill and could no longer care for him. From the day he arrived, we found Koda to be a darling boy, very sweet and loving. So much so that we thought he would be perfect for Paula & Russ, previous adopters of four Lily's pups over the years. Sadly, several months ago they lost their beloved Buddy, a blind Chocolate Lab, they adopted in March 2017.
Paula & Russ came to meet Koda. After hanging out in the corral with him for about an hour, they decided he was a great fit for them. So they packed him into their doggie outfitted van and off they went.
Update: First night he took a tour of the house and yard, met the cats and it all went very well. He decided the kitchen was a good place to park himself while Paula fixed dinner….a happy introduction to his new life!
(Please note the Lily's tote bag Paula is holding. It was donated by volunteer Eleanor to give to adopters to hold all the paperwork and goodies. Paula was the first adopter to receive a tote bag and she loved it!! Thank you Eleanor!)
Koda, a 10 year old Chocolate Lab, has been ADOPTED. He was owner surrendered when his owner became ill and could no longer care for him. From the day he arrived, we found Koda to be a darling boy, very sweet and loving. Baxter
Baxter’s new mom, Mary, spotted him on our website and fell in love. She has experience with special needs dogs like Baxter, who is visually impaired. Her last dog was visually impaired and had multiple health issues. Mary lives in Davis, works from home and has no other animals. She hasn’t had a dog in the house for 3 years and was so happy to bring Baxter home!
Needless to say, we are over the moon for sweet Baxter, so happy he found the forever home he deserves.

Jacob
His new dad, Patrick, is a longtime Shepherd lover and Lily’s follower. He lives in Groveland, near Yosemite, with his recently widowed mother, Marilyn.
Patrick has been interested in a couple of our Shepherds in the past but has missed out. As soon as he spotted Jacob on our website he was "on it". The timing was perfect, Jacob’s stitches had just been removed and he was good to go. That same day the virtual home check was done, 2 thumbs up. Wednesday, Patrick and Marilyn made the 4+ hour journey from Groveland to meet Jacob. From the start, it was a great match. Patrick was unfazed by the fact that Jacob was 11 years old, his last rescue Shepherd lived to be 18 years old!
Update from Patrick: "Jacob misses all the beautiful people at Lily’s. We already love him."

Casper
Casper has been adopted by David & Angela, a young couple from Campbell. Their last dog was a Giant Schnauzer that they got from their vet when he was 9 years old. Sadly, he passed last August at the age of 11. When they saw Casper on our website they were drawn to him. Virtual home check was done yesterday, all good. They came to meet their new boy and took him right home. David is a techie and works from home, Angela is an optometrist. Happy days ahead for Casper!

Millie
Erica & Stephen were thrilled to come take their newest member of the family home. Millie seemed happy to see them too. They brought her a beautiful collar, leash and harness. And a bonus, the company Erica works for is doing a matching donation for the adoption fee!
Millie’s new home is in Rocklin, near Sacramento. She’ll have 2 canine sibs, a 10 year old Aussie and a 2 year old Border Collie. Erica cooks for the dogs and does agility with the Border Collie as well. Stephen is a 1st grade teacher. Sure looks like Millie landed in a great home!

Koda
As we expected, Koda, the 9 years young Golden was only with us for 5 whole days. During that time several potential adopters came to meet him. In the end, Koda chose Susan & Al to be his new family. They are both retired and over the years have had many Goldens as well as Shelties. They have a beautiful home in Pleasant Hill and their property backs onto Briones Regional Park where they walk regularly. Sure looks like Koda scored big time!
