Barkley
Barkley has finally found a wonderful forever home, with a new sister to boot! Barkley continues to do very well with his new family, they love him to bits! In fact, Barkley has hit the jackpot. Latest news, he and sister Rosie are both going to a B&B with mom and dad! Doesn’t get much better than that Barkley!
Oliver
Hurrah, Oliver has been adopted by a wonderful family from San Jose! Lucky Oliver gets to go to work with his new dad and is apparently settling in well with his new mom and dad and 2-year-old human sister. Thank you Nancy G. for fostering him many months and giving him so much love as he recovered from heartworm treatment.
Boomer
Didn’t take long for Boomer to no longer be a foster pup. Foster mom Ann has officially adopted him…there was no way she was ever going to let him go. So happy for Ann and Boomer (and Kittens too), it is a match made in Heaven!
Gus
Gus is enjoying a wonderful life with his new sister Lacy (another Lily’s pup). Things are going swimmingly for our cute Gus and his new family. A happy new beginning for this dear boy!!!
Princess
Just when Boomer went home with Ann, there was a need for a space for newly arrived Jasmine, a beautiful 8 year old Golden Retriever. Timing was everything,Jasmine transitioned into Boomer’s backyard suite. Then Donna T. kindly offered to foster Jasmine until she found a forever home. It didn’t take long before someone was interested in Jasmine. Donna brought her back to the Sanctuary on Saturday to meet Cheryl. Everything went great, it was a good match and Jasmine was adopted on the spot. She went home with Cheryl for a few days and then Donna will take her back while Cheryl is out of town. Paws crossed for another happy ending!
Princess
Maria, a woman down on her luck, showed up at Lily's for an evaluation on her 2 senior dogs, Princess and Valentine. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for either of them and Maria left to take her dogs to the dog park. Shortly thereafter, 2 women came to meet Dusty. After getting to know him, they realized that he would not be a good fit with their other 2 dogs. Here’s where the miracle starts to unfold.….Linda says, “You know the black lab (Princess) that was just here might be just what you’re looking for!”. Alice being ever "on the job" immediately jumped into her car, drove to the dog park and brought Maria & Princess back to Lily's.
Amazingly, the two women fell in love with Princess, there was an instant connection! And by the way Princess jumped into their car, it was pretty obvious that the feeling was mutual!

Amy
Remember Amy, the beautiful 11 year old silver standard Poodle? She had spent the last 9 years as a caregiver to her owner who had Alzheimer's. When her owner had to move into a long term care facility Amy was fostered by her owner's human caregiver. Good news, she has now been adopted by a wonderful couple who already have a beautiful 8 year old silver poodle as well as a standard Airedale. After meeting Amy, it was love at first sight!
Amy has gone to her new home and is fitting in nicely with her new brother and sister. She has already taken to sleeping on mom and dad’s bed.

Pearl
As expected, sweet Miss Pearl didn’t stay long in the Bunkhouse. She headed out to her wonderful new home in Los Altos last Monday. Her new mom and dad (Barbara and David) are retired, are home most the time and our cute Pearl will be well loved and cared for!
Juanita (Emily)
Our darling 13-year-old Golden Retriever, Juanita (now, Emily) chose the Express Route through Lily’s Legacy. She was an owner surrender who was in need of some immediate medical attention for a benign growth on her eyelid and one on her hip. While recovering from these surgeries, we received an inquiry about her from a couple who lived in Sparks, Nevada. Because one of the unofficial mottos at Lily's Legacy is "Nothing is Impossible!" and we know our Lily is at the helm from the Rainbow Bridge, we were not discouraged. As it turned out, our Executive Director, Alice, has a long time, dog savvy friend who lives near this couple and Cheryl graciously agreed to do the home visit.
Cheryl’s report was that she’d like to be adopted by this family. Juanita/Emily no sooner was released from veterinary care when her “furever”family drove down from Sparks to bring her home to meet her new siblings, Max and Bear, two senior Golden Retrievers. We received a wonderful Christmas photo of all three pups relaxing in the family room. Needless to say, this Special Delivery girl from Lily's Legacy has been embraced with open, loving arms and paws!

Ava
This sweet 10-year-old Shepherd-mix was surrendered in very poor condition. She was flea-infested and nearly hairless. She spent quite a bit of time at our vet being treated for her flea-allergy with medicated baths and antibiotics. Once she was released to the Sanctuary, she quickly captured everybody's heart with her endearing nature and the best ears-ever! Our love-bug was also very vocal and joyously greeted each person who entered the Bunkhouse. She even welcomed her frequent medicated baths. We're pretty sure she knew they were a part of why she was feeling so much better. The sores healed and a full, glossy black coat soon emerged. Just about every volunteer could be found trying to figure out a way that they could be the lucky one to adopt Ava! However, because her personality jumped off the Facebook page (we think it was those ears, again!), the perfect family soon arrived to promptly fall in love with our dear girl. While we certainly missed her delightful presence in the Bunkhouse, we are overjoyed that she is basking in the glow of the love of her new family, frolicking with the pack on hikes and even contentedly lounging beside the family pool in the warmer weather.
Buddy & Lacy
Our beautiful Buddy, an 8-yr.old Lab/Aussie/Hound-mix barely got time to try out his bed at the Sanctuary before he was being whisked away to his furever-home by this wonderful couple. What makes this even more special, is they had adopted Lacy, our Yellow-Lab two-months ago! A recent visit confirmed this was another Match made by Lily!
Tasha
From Tasha's mom: Adopting Tasha has been a real boon to my life. I've had many dog companions during my 72 years and after knowing Tasha for less than a month, I'm convinced she embodies the best of their legacies. She amuses: Snapping in vain for the white tip of her looping-to-one-side tail, vocalizing a brief enchanting howl before sitting up and giving a High-Five motion to request a
treat. She lounges with loving companionship. Obviously, I adore her and we're perfect together as senior buddies.
The process of adopting Tasha was what she deserved. I was carefully scrutinized: filled out a pertinent information questionnaire regarding my home and surroundings; had a delightful home visit by Alice Mayn. I was carefully instructed as to her exercise needs, nutrition, and how to accustom her to her new home. She had been lovingly cared for as one of their "bunkhouse pups" by many great volunteers I met while visiting her prior to taking her home. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone looking for a right-match companion to visit Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary."

Lacy
Sweet Lacy received the best Christmas present ever, her forever family! Her new family recently lost their two senior pups and once they saw Lacy, knew the best way to honor them was to give their hearts to her. We are so thankful for the wonderful life they will provide for Lacy. Our deepest gratitude to her wonderful foster Mom who gave her a warm, nurturing environment in which she thrived! Team Lily couldn’t be happier!
Cruz
Cruz came back to us after his last adopter sadly passed away, and was quickly adopted again by two of our volunteers. Although they initially wanted to adopt him last year, they were not able to adopt because their apartment did not allow pets. Luckily, they were moving to a new house this summer and jumped at the chance to bring Cruz home.
Cruz gets tons of exercise and play time every day, and when he goes to work with Dad, he gets to go to the beach too! Happy, healthy, and adored! Lucky dog, indeed!

Khyber
This cute boy, 8 year old Khyber, is having a short stay at Lily's. He came in a week ago Sunday and a wonderful lady looking for a male shepherd arrived a few minutes later to meet him. A half an hour later, Khyber had a new home, a new human mom and sweet shepherd sister. What could be better! He has remained at Lily's to have his vet checkup taken care of and because his new mom had a short trip planned. She's on her way back and on Wednesday off he goes to his "furever" home. A great house to live in, a safely fenced acre of land to roam and all the cuddling and TLC he could ever hope for. What a lucky boy!!!
Picture includes sweet Tiffany, and left to right - Linda our Lily's volunteer who fielded Jo's calls about Tiffany and made sure our intake ball got rolling; Jo, who rescued her - bless you Jo for a great rescue job; Bridget who came to find Tiffany as a companion for her grandmother - thank you Bridget for all your effort to get Tiffany and your grandmother together; and Alice, our director and nighttime nanny at Lily's.
Winnie
Living with someone who didn't think dogs should sleep in one's bedroom, Winnie has woven her way into the heart (and bedroom) of her forever mom. Way to go Winnie!
Cali
It's official, our cute Cali has found her forever home. Her wonderful foster family has fallen in love with her and she with them. She also loves her new lab brother, Buddy, and the kitties. The day she was surrendered, she went straight to our vet for her intake exam, then off to her foster, now forever, home. She is one lucky girl! So are her new mom and dad.
Smokey
Smiley Smokey has his forever home!!! He's one happy boy in his new abode....gets to go to work with Mom everyday, has three rat terriers who are being babysat by mom for a few weeks to keep him company and a wonderful yard to explore. HIs favorite game is to get his blankie, the terriers hop on and he pulls them around the house. Smokey keeps everyone laughing. He is ADORED!
Bentley
"Mr. Bentley is a big, gentle, quick-learning boy. He follows commands consistently, and likes to have a happy bond with his Human. He knows Sit, Stay, Back Up, Go To Your Bed, Go In The House, and stops barking (which he rarely does) after a sharp whistle and a call of his name. Bentley is good on walks, and will soon be completely leash trained. He is good with other dogs, and people too. He is not interested in birds. From what I know of him so far, he is the best dog I¹ve ever had the pleasure to meet.
Bentley doesn’t interrupt our sleep, or wake us up in the morning. He¹s casual about eating times, and doesn¹t require company while he dines. He also does not beg. We tell him to go to his bed while we eat, and he does so without complaint. He has not tried to get food off the counter or dining room table, even when it is within easy reach. Though ten years old, he is very strong. Bentley needs two good walks a day, and will nap soundly after each walk. When he wakes up, he will ask for love, and also some kind of mental stimulation - roaming around the backyard or watching his human make dinner seems to keep him engaged. He also asks for a lot of eye-to-eye communication, which might have to do with his current situation. When you’re done petting him, he will go away if you say I¹m done now, or go lie down. It might take two or three times, but he does comply. He is a most excellent dog, and is a spectacular companion pup."

Pepper
From Pepper's new dad:
"Pepper is so much fun. We genuinely love each other. Can't believe she has only been with me two weeks...feels like several months. We had a good walk earlier this evening; then home for supper; and now she is power-lounging. She sleeps on her quilt on the living room floor all night long. She has a new bright red harness that is much easier to get on and off. She also has a new dog tag and an official Maricopa County dog license tag. She is officially an Arizona sexy senior."

Oscar
From Oscar's new dad:
"He is definitely a happy pup, he enjoys his doggy siblings, Guinness and Stella pack, and is ok around the house when I am at work. No destructive behavior ... unless you notice he chews shoes, blankets, barks at cats and squirrels, and can counter surf with the best of 'em. He has settled into a nice routine, gets just enough exercise, has a nice yard for exploring and has learned how to go through the doggie-door. What he does lack in control and behavior, we can handle and appreciate him for who he is, and not who he's not. I do believe we are his forever family and are thankful he is here."

Pearl
From Pearl's new family: "She just graduated from her Good Manners class and did really well. It started out rough (lots of pulling, lunging on leash) but I worked with her quite a bit (and one-on-one with a trainer) and she now does really well on leash. We celebrate everything at our home, so she'll be getting a special dinner and a special treat that Michael bought to celebrate her success.
She has adjusted VERY well here. She and our cat have become good friends and sleep within inches of each other on the couch. Pearl enjoys her 2 walks every day, loves riding with me in the car, running in the nearby fields and swimming in local ponds. We call her "Pearl-the-Squirrel-Girl" because of her mega interest in the squirrels in our neighborhood and yard. She loves sitting and watching them jump from tree to tree. She has lost 9 pounds and looks like a 3 year old! Pearl is perfect for us!"

Goldie
Remember sweet Goldie, the 15 year old pup who was returned to the shelter from which she had been adopted 14 years earlier, with the instructions to "put her down because she is old"? A volunteer saw her, called us, and instead of being put down, Goldie came to Lily's Legacy. Now just 5 weeks later, she has moved on - into the perfect forever home, with mom and dad, Julia and Robert, and her canine sister, Sheila, whom she loves.
Dad, Robert, reports:
"Absolutely WONDERFUL!! Goldie is the SWEETEST pup one could ever ask for! Everything is going along perfectly!!" Here's Mom, Dad and our wonderful foster, Jody, saying goodbye to sweet Goldie, and of her settled in her car for the ride to her new home.

Bear
Our cuddly Bear went off to his forever home after only a week at Lily's Legacy. And what a lucky boy. He has been adopted by wonderful Mariane and Mike who adopted our cute Annie and Lilly a few months back. Annie came with them to pick him up and welcome him into the family. Thy hit it off from the get go. Bear has settled in happily. He is living the life he deserves being cuddled and loved 24/7. And when spring comes and the family pool gets opened up, he'll even be able to swim.
Lizzie
Sweet-as-pie Lizzie moved in with her fantastic foster-to-adopt mom, Leslie, about a month ago, and things are going swimmingly! Lizzie was rescued in July 2014 from a county shelter, where she was a favorite. She'd been a stray, and the dear girl was so sad and confused. A wonderful Lily's Legacy volunteer, Megan, fostered Lizzie for a few weeks, and then, shazam!, Lizzie's new mom Leslie called us, hoping for a Shepherd or Shepherd mix dog with JUST Lizzie's personality! Lizzie and Leslie are two peas in a pod, and Lizzie continues to come out of her shell, ever more smiley and wiggly by the day, and is trimming her weight nicely under Leslie's fantastic care. Look at those happy faces! Woo-hoo!
Leila
Our beautiful German Shepherd, Leila, who was adopted in early August, is thriving in her new home. She came to Lily’s Legacy from a Bay Area shelter where she was deemed not adoptable. Good friends of the couple who had adopted our bonded girls, Annie and Lilly, heard about Leila. They fell in love with her from afar… all the way from Tucson. Since she had a knee problem, a torn cranial cruciate ligament, they decided to get a new van so she could travel in comfort. They decked the van out with memory foam seats, a big doggie bed and floor pads and drove up to Petaluma to pick her up. Fast forward a couple of months and this sweet girl has settled in happily. Her new mom and dad found a wonderful surgeon who fixed her knee with the TPLO surgery and she is healing well. Leila gets to go to work with mom and dad everyday and happily rides to and from on her memory foam seat or dog bed or floor pad. Look at this happy girl!
Dizzy (Desiree)
Desiree's family wrote to tell us how she is doing: "Desiree is now Dizzy ;) she loves her new name. She and her brother Chewy LOVE to nap on the couch. Dizz (lower deck) always has to have part of herself on a blanket, pillow or human. She is the sweetest, most lovable fur baby I've ever had. I think she is very happy here, I know we are."
Annie & Lilly
From Annie and Lilly's new mom: "Over the last 24 years, my husband and I have had three Golden retrievers. All lived to 12 years of age; unfortunately, all three had cancer. Two of our Goldens were rescues. Shortly after our third Golden, Dukie, crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I started looking online for a Golden Retriever rescue. Life without our Goldens wasn’t the same. Did I forget to mention that we adopted a 13-year-old Chihuahua and King Charles Spaniel mix named Nugat two years ago? My girls teased me that I was running a hospice for dogs. Hmm, not such a bad idea.
A friend of mine told me about Lily’s Legacy, a senior sanctuary in Petaluma. I checked out the website and I immediately fell in love with all those white-faced senior Goldens. Long story short, my husband and I fell in love with Annie, an 8-year-old Golden and her constant companion, Lily. Lily had a white face, black fur, and her stated age was 13. I emailed Alice and expressed my interest in the girls. She told me they had been together for the last 8 years and she would not separate them. A few emails and a home visit later, up to Petaluma we went to fetch our girls. It’s hard to believe they were even prettier in person. They are both angels. They love chasing tennis balls! Lily has terrible arthritis and it breaks our hearts to see her struggle to sit and get up from the floor. Fast forward three weeks; Lily is swimming several times a week in our pool with a life vest! Lily has a tennis ball in her mouth and does laps in the pool. Annie, the teenager, has graduated to where she can swim without her life jacket. My husband and I have noticed an improvement in Lily’s range of motion, especially after her water aerobics. The girls have brought such joy to our family. My daughter and 10-year-old granddaughter absolutely love stopping by to see the girls. Seniors have so much to offer. They have adjusted well, and Nugat - only 15 pounds - loves his new pals. We are so thankful for people like Alice who opens her home and her heart to so many forgotten seniors, many with serious health issues who would have been euthanized if not for Lily’s Legacy. God bless all of you for taking care of these precious angels and for bringing the girls into our lives." |
Bruno
Bruno (photo, on right) has gone to a fabulous forever home. Bruno had been surrendered by a family who was moving away and could no longer keep him. He is now happy with his forever family, and his new buddy Casper. They write: “We are having lots of fun with Bruno. We love him and he seems very happy with us.”
Buster
Buster, a 10-year-old, 90-pound Bernese Mountain Dog-Pointer mix has found his perfect forever home with a great family in Sea Ranch. Buster’s owner passed away and Buster came to stay at Lily’s Legacy for a short time. Buster proved to have an excellent manner with of all creatures including horses and the family cat. His new family wrote to say: "Just wanted to tell you that Buster is doing really well. He's already lost a pound :) and takes about 3 walks a day - which I think he loves. So he's building up some muscle too. He's probably the most gentle dog we've ever had. Thelma the cat (to the right in the photo) and all the horses are very comfortable with him too. So thank you for rescuing him and allowing us to adopt him. It's good for him and for us."
Shep (Jake)
Jake has had his dream come true! This sweet, cuddly, and funny boy (with great ears) came to us as a stray and spent a while at the sanctuary before going to stay with one of our dedicated foster parents. He has now found his forever home! His new mom sent us this note: "We picked up Jake this morning. We are going to call him Shep. He seems to be settling in just fine...using the dog door, using his new bed...going for a walk. He likes the back yard and following us around. Thank you for allowing us to adopt this senior boy!! Thank you for the service you are providing."
Waylon
Waylon became a Lily's Legacy resident after his owner passed away. He has now found his happy new home! His adopted family sent this update: "Waylon is doing great and adjusting to his new home well. He is starting to become more comfortable and really let his personality show. We could not be happier with him! He is loving his two 30 min walks a day."
Max
Max's new family writes: "Max came to us fast & unexpected. The joy, kookiness & big personality was a seamless fit for our family. It seemed meant to be from the get go although the bottom line was up to our other golden shaggy hair 14 yr. old boy, Rocky. They became natural buddies immediately. Both look out for the other. It really is amazing! Having the gift of Max has truly been wonderful for all of us. Our two golden oldies make us smile & laugh daily. These two have puppy playfulness and love to share with anyone that comes into contact with them. We couldn't be more grateful."
Max
Before coming to Lily's Legacy, Max - a sweet Shepherd mix - suffered a series of tough breaks. He lost his first home when his owner's rescue ran into problems, and after that, was kenneled by a number of different organizations without the care and comfort he needed. After some time to recuperate at Lily's Legacy (where he blossomed into a happy boy), Max was adopted into wonderful home. His new mom sent this message: "We can't thank you enough for bringing 'Max' into our lives. He is a perfect fit with our clan. We love his goofy ways, husky bark, amazing smile and his gentleness. He loves his car rides, clan members and couches equally!"
Sam (Savannah)
After arriving at Lily's Legacy, Sam (originally Savannah) quickly found a home with a wonderful new adoptive family. Sam's new mom sent us this update: "She's 68 lbs now, perfect per our vet. Sam's quite a ham, and a very good sneak at stealing Buddy's favorite squeaky bone. The tail wags ALL the time. Did I tell you we traded in one of our Toyota Highlanders for a...oh boy...a...mini van!!!!! Sam's dad loves it, but his main reason was for the dogs- easier for them to get in and out of, wider door, lower to the ground, lots of floor space to sit or lay down. I bought a little half- ramp for them to walk in and out."
Mickey
Mickey is having a 'ball' with her new family! Her new mom writes: "Mickey is well integrated into our family and thriving on the love and attention she gets. Photos from after a long hike. She loves a tennis ball."
Baron (Striker)
Striker (now Baron) came to Lily's Legacy from a shelter having contracted heartworm, a potentially deadly disease. Fortunately, a couple of our Lily's Angels were able to offer him a safe and comfortable foster home while he underwent treatment. After his recovery, Baron found a loving adoptive home in Santa Cruz. His new mom writes: "I feel so blessed by Lily’s Legacy for saving my dear boy from an awful fate, by his fosters, Bob & Linda's loving care during his heartworm treatments and their extreme generosity, and by my beloved Baron who has been such a wonderful addition to our life. Thank you!"
Banjo
Banjo, a longtime guest of Lily’s Legacy's sanctuary has been adopted a loving, fantastic forever-family. A husband and wife, who work opposite shifts, and two teenagers to keep him busy. Banjo will have practically constant companionship, which he adores! Yay! Not only that, Banjo's sweet family has ALSO adopted Lily's Legacy, already pledging support to another Lily's pup in need, and calling us "Ohana", Hawaiian for "family."
Phoebe
|
Phoebe's new dad writes: "It all began when my wife arrived home from one of her volunteer meetings at Lily’s Legacy. 'I have just seen the cutest, most precious dog,' she said. Somehow, I knew what was coming. 'Lily’s has just brought in the most beautiful Chocolate Lab named Phoebe. We think her former owners used her as a backyard breeder dog. She didn’t have a chance for much socialization with other animals or with people, but you quickly see that she has a wonderful, quiet disposition. Don’t you think she would fit in nicely with our other dogs? I really like her and I would like for you to meet her. Maybe we can even bring her home.' Now, we already had two wonderful dogs, Sunny and Cooper, adopted from Lily’s, as well as another senior dog, Harley, a long-time member of our family. Adopting a fourth dog certainly wasn’t on my radar! However, I felt it wouldn’t hurt to at least meet Phoebe. Indeed, she was a good looking dog and ever-so-kind girl looking for a nice lap or two to call home. As my wife had said, she was a little shy, especially around men. But I was confident that this 'shyness' would pass if she became part of our family. We took her home that afternoon and, as we suspected, she immediately took on the role of chief lap warmer! One of the first things you wonder when you introduce a new dog to your family is how well it will fit in with your other dogs. I am delighted to tell you that Phoebe was accepted right away and integrated seamlessly into our tribe, all 16 legs and 4 wagging tails o’ love! Phoebe especially enjoys going on walks (something we don’t think she got to do in her former life). In the three months we have had Phoebe, she has become much more relaxed and confident. She’s perhaps for the first time learning what it’s like to be an esteemed member of the family. Her 'shyness' has almost completely disappeared. If tail wagging is an indication, Phoebe is a happy dog. For sure, she has certainly brought much joy into our lives." |
Jaydin
Jaydin, a 9-year-old Chocolate Lab, arrived at Lily’s Legacy on a Friday evening, and by the end of the weekend, the perfect home for her was found! Jaydin came to Lily’s Legacy after her owner had posted her as “free to a good home.” Fortunately, a Lily’s Legacy volunteer saw the posting and contacted the owner to offer our help. forward just a few weeks, and Jaydin has been officially adopted! Her terrific new family members - mom, dad, and dog brother, Drake - love Jaydin a whole bunch, and have promised her that she never again has to be unwanted, or start over, or "roll the dice" for a home. She is truly home now, and is completely snuggled and adored!
Kenai
Lovely Kenai has found a home with a wonderful family. Her new family even includes a Labradoodle named Trooper to keep her entertained. Here's an update from her new mom: "We have come to adore Kenai as each day passes. She does a whole body wag when I tell her it's time for our walk . . . I started slowly with walking, but soon learned she is very capable of walking a full hour with Trooper and me. Trooper loves to patrol our back yard and chase the squirrels, and Kenai, not to be outdone, charges out the door right on Troopers heels. They have begun to play as well . . . Kenai lays on her back and lets Trooper 'attack' her!"
Coco
A thank-you 'from' Coco: "Dear Lily's Legacy, I know it says you are a Senior Dog Sanctuary - and although you may consider 7 years old to be 'senior', I consider myself 'young' and very lucky. I know I am quite large, yet I feel like a mini puppy - set free at last! The home you found for me could not be any better - or well suited for me. I get to sleep on the couch, the chair, and the bed; I go for morning walks, and I even a jog some now (I pull a little bit, but once I get a bit tired I'm in the groove of things). I get to live with a Chocolate Labrador sister, and although she is very senior, we get along great! Pals we are on the couch, and I get the benefit of enjoying her organic food. I am in love with my new family, and wonder how we got so lucky... it must be you! And your good work! I just wanted to thank you - especially from a big girl such as myself - it's hard to fit in these days - but my new family is so loving and non-judgmental that I get to be me! Even when I snore! Thanks again, warm and happy kisses, Coco."
Buddy (PG)
PG, our sweet Golden Retriever, has found a forever home in Southern California. In addition to a new big human family, he has little doggie sister, and a cat, chickens, and rabbits to keep him entertained. He will also have many canine friends. In addition to enjoying adventures with his family at softball games, he will get spend time at the ocean - at the dog beach!
Harley
Harley has found a great new family to call his very own! Harley’s new mom and dad recently lost two of their beloved senior dogs, so the timing was right for them to add to their pack and Harley was more than happy to join it! Harley's new family writes: "Harley joined our family in September. We have always 'rescued' dogs, having a special place in our hearts for senior dogs. Harley, a 10 year old lab, has filled our hearts and home with unconditional love! He is a constant companion, following us from room to room, tail wagging and big brown eyes staring! He joined our people and dog family with ease and grace. He loves his companion, Suzie, (an 8 year old beagle mix) and our 3 active grandchildren. His greatest joys include long walks (he is wonderful off leash!) doggie treats of any kind, and snuggling up next to us. We can't get over how easily he adjusted to his new home-we feel like he has always been with us! He has reminded us how good it is to get out and enjoy the day and then come home for a satisfying meal followed by a nap! We have learned that when we 'rescue' older dogs, we become full of gratitude for the way our lives change for the better. We only wish we had known Harley as a young dog, because he is such a gentle, loving guy."
Coco
Coco's new mom writes: "Coco came home with us in May, bright eyed and needing LOTS of attention. I was so warmed by her sweet face, happy temperament and her very eager need for affection. I knew she would be a good companion for our family and for Tappi, the sweet boy we adopted from Lily's Legacy back in March. She immediately cozied up to our two young sons, nudging them for hugs and belly rubs. Coco is such a well behaved girl & fit right into our routines. Tappi, our very laid back & easy going guy, was a bit apprehensive about this energetic, somewhat pushy girl who kept nudging him out of his comfy naps to play with her, but Coco is not to be ignored. She nudged him and brought him tennis balls until she worked her way right into his heart too. Now they are inseparable. Coco's big personality is a joy, she loves to cuddle and play and keeps us very busy playing fetch with her toy ducks and entertaining us. With his gentle and loving spirit, Tappi maintains a very calming and peaceful vibe in the house. We are eagerly looking forward to a summer of adventures with our happy little dog duet!"
Max
Max, a gentleman Golden Retriever, had a foster home already waiting for him when he got to Lily's Legacy. And, of course, they fell in love with him immediately. His new mom sent us this: "He's pretty darn cute! Fitting right in - and what a NICE boy! We are lucky to have him!!!" He is now a happy and well-loved permanent family member, having lots of fun with his two Golden siblings.
Duke
Duke, a gentle black Lab, only spent an afternoon at Lily's Legacy before heading to his new adoptive home, but during that afternoon, he charmed everyone at our annual volunteer party with his sweet easy-going nature. He has since been settling in happily with his new mom and dad. His new mom is retired and Duke is enjoying going for a couple walks a day with her and getting lots of attention from the whole family, including a couple very nice grandchildren. Here's what his new mom writes: "Duke is doing very good. He's lost about 5 Lbs and looks great. I can't tell you enough just how mellow our 'old man' is...we love him already and so does the rest of the family. Everyone that's met him just loves him. He's a sweet boy!"
Millie & Liberty
|
From Liberty and Millie's new family: "'The girls', as we like to call Liberty and Millie, started out as our family's foster dogs. When they arrived, we already had two large dogs of our own and had not anticipated adding any more canine family members. However, this mother-daughter team immediately made themselves right at home. Our two golden retrievers (a mother and son) made room for them on the couch, and ever since, the four of them have been happy to cuddle up together on the bed, couch, or floor. The human members of our family were also instantly charmed by them. The girls planted themselves on our laps and at our feet as if they had always been there. They proved to be happy, lively, appreciative of affection, and game for any adventure. Their ever-expressive tails thump away whenever one of us enters the room and they go into paroxysms of joy at the very hint of a walk. Adoring them, we looked for the perfect home for them, but in the end we realized that they wanted to stay right where they were. We are still a little surprised to have a house so filled with dogs, but the girls bring us great joy. " |
Tappi
|
From Tappi's new mom: "Tappi is doing great! He has settled in wonderfully, his little injury has healed up quite nicely, and he is just a fluffy bundle of happiness and joy to our family! He became a part of our family instantly, loves going everywhere with us, hangs out and plays with us during the day and then curls up at the foot of our bed each night. We have so enjoyed learning about him and discovering all his special talents. He loves jumping for carrots, catching tennis balls in the yard, and is master of his manners - sit, stay, speak, shake. He loves going on walks downtown and hanging out during the kids' practices. His new favorite activity is to go outside with us in the evenings and lay in front of the fire pit, watch the fire, and take a nap. But mostly he loves to cuddle! He is so gentle and friendly and mellow in every situation that we just love to take him wherever we go. He is eager to travel with us everywhere and is a fantastic companion for a quiet lunch downtown (we love taking him to the cafes downtown and are looking forward to the farmers market) or outings to sports practices and the park, even show-and-tell at school, where he sat so patiently and soaked up all the love from all 20 second graders! He stood there proud as a peacock as if to say, "Why yes! I am fluffy and beautiful. And yes, you can cuddle me! " Since I am home during the day, Tappi is my constant companion. We have developed quite a routine together, and we enjoy our daily walks and errands together. We have all just fallen in love with him and each one of us treasures our Tappi time every day! We couldn't ask for a more loving or sweeter friend than Tappi." |
Taffy
|
Taffy has found her forever home! Darling Taffy's new family are absolutely in love with her and it looks as if the feeling is mutual. Taffy came to Lily's Legacy from a shelter where she had been owner-surrendered with another and had waited in a cramped kennel with her dog friend for four long weeks for rescue, and faced euthanasia due to her age. Now, Taffy is going to a wonderful home. She even gets to be an ambassador of the flight school where her dad is a pilot! Her dad writes: "All of the students this weekend couldn't get enough of Taffy and loved on her any free moment they were not flying". An update from Taffy's new mom: "I know the vet marked that she is supposed to be 12 years old, but I think she is probably more like half that age. She can outrun us on miles of hiking trails, she is an avid swimmer in lakes and pools, and she even does yoga. (We taught her how to do 'downward dog' on command - she enjoys her clicker training!) With regular medicated baths, her skin has cleared up and her coat is now smooth and sleek. what a great dog!" |
Laney (Lady)
Lady has found her adoptive family!! Lovely ten-year-old Lady arrived at Lily’s Legacy from the Sonoma County Animal Shelter where she was an owner surrender. From her happy disposition and gregarious behavior, you’d never know that Lady was heartworm positive, which usually means a long stay at Lily’s while undergoing the extensive treatment. Fortunately, we had already interviewed a loving family who had previously adopted a special-needs dog from Lily's Legacy named Rikki. This sweet family nursed Rikki through Laryngeal paralysis, a serious condition. Recently Rikki passed away, and they were looking for just the right dog to bring into their home. A few phone calls and visits later, and it was agreed that Lady would be the perfect family addition, as she is especially sweet with children. Lady’s new family, which includes a happy boy named Henry (pictured with Lady), even agreed to take on the heartworm treatments – they didn’t want to wait before taking Lady to her new foster home. We love success stories at Lily’s, and Lady is the perfect example of what happens when you pair an excellent senior dog with a loving new family.
Cooper
|
Cooper's mom writes: "Dear, sweet, Cooper, our second Lily’s adoptee: There likely aren’t enough adjectives in the English language to describe just how amazing this angel of a boy is, but here goes: Though Cooper’s past was one of heartbreaking neglect, he doesn’t want anyone, most of all himself, to dwell on that. He believes his time is much better spent being sweet, sensitive…goofy….curious….goofy, mischievous…..did I mention goofy? Yes, Cooper’s over the top in the goofy department! He is the poster child for the old adage, 'laughter is the best medicine.' No one smiles or laughs quite like Cooper does. Is it his impossibly high-set ears, his melt-your-heart huge smile, his signature 'I’m-on-my-back-swimming-upside-down-now-pet-me' pose? Could it be his loving brown-button eyes that reveal so much kindness within him? Cooper, the 'package,' steals the hearts of all who have the pleasure of meeting him. Oh, and he has fans far and wide: The animal control officer who rescued him, the veterinary hospital staff in Benicia who rehabbed him for weeks before he was able to transition to Lily’s for adoption, everyone he meets when he’s out for a stroll, and, of course, myself, my husband, and his two other 'siblings' (two of them Lily’s rescues), Sunny and Phoebe. Cooper’s a rockstar! Cooper has taught us many lessons in the year-plus he’s been with us. He reminds us to be courageous in the face of unspeakable adversity; to have a never-quit attitude, even when our bodies begin to betray us; to put our best paw forward along with a smile under any circumstances, and, most importantly, to always, always employ our best life skill, laughter, especially at ourselves! Thank you, Cooper, for reminding us how to live our lives with grace. And thank you, Lily’s, for your great gift of Cooper." |
Gracie
Gracie was saved from a Central Valley county shelter where she would have lost her life without help. She had been found wandering in a rural area, emaciated and tick infested. Her collar bore a license from far north Humboldt County, but no owners were found. Understandably depressed at rescue, she was lovingly fostered for 6 weeks, and began to recover from her trauma. Then the phone rang. It was Mary - her fabulous new forever mom. She'd seen Gracie's photo, and knew Gracie was her girl. Gracie was soon transported by her foster mom to her new forever home in Elk Grove, near Sacramento. When she arrived, her new Mom and Dad were so excited about her arrival that they had love, hugs, and everything else ready - wonderful orthopedic dog beds throughout the house, a raised food and water station, her snappy new ID tag and leash, and even a reflective coat to wear on evening walks! Gracie now lives contentedly with a houseful of cats, adores her human Mom and Dad, and even has an Australian Sheepdog boyfriend down the street. Gracie's mom sent this update: "I thank Lily's Legacy every day for my beautiful girl. It has been a year and a half of pure love. Thanks again for all the great work you do - I'm so happy your organization exists!"
Emma
From Emma's new mom: "Emma came home 4 months ago. She wouldn't mind if I told you she is hilarious, independent, and pushy. She would turn her nose up if I told you she is an inspiration (she thinks she's just a regular girl), but I'll say it anyway. Though her ailments are many, she lives each day with grace. I thought I would share a few things she has taught me in the last 4 months: 1. Get lots of sleep; 2. Don't let your aches and pains define your life. Ignore them as much as possible and focus on the good things; 3. Stay active and enjoy the outdoors, even if your body may not feel like it.; 4.Treat everyone you meet like an old friend; 5. Being happy and friendly to people pretty much forces them to be happy and friendly back; 6. It doesn't matter if you are bowed, boney, wrinkled, have warts, with one eyelid hanging half shut..... if you feel beautiful, you are beautiful; 7. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want; 8. Best friends often come in surprising packages. (Emma doesn't like to be jostled, because her legs are very unstable. I figured that Gunner, the 4 year old active Lab around the corner, should be avoided. Wrong. Gunner, seemed to know what Emma needed and he stands perfectly still while she prances around him. Then he very gently nuzzles her, making sure not to tip her over. They love each other. Go figure.); 9. Don't be afraid to embrace your inner quirkiness. Perfect is boring. 10. It only takes minutes to fall in love. Do it as often as possible. I'm grateful Emma has found her way home."
Patch
Patch was a stray who was rescued from a Salinas, California, animal shelter and lovingly fostered by Peace of Mind Rescue in Pacific Grove. Patch made his way up north to Lily’s Legacy, where it was not difficult to find this easy going boy a forever home, and he got one with one of Lily’s Legacy’s volunteer “Angels,” Patty. Patch is now enjoying his senior years in peace and comfort in Petaluma. His new mom writes: "Scruffy-guy and all-around good dog, Patch, just wanted some consistency in his life and a warm, loving environment in which to age gracefully. He fit right in to a household with two senior dogs and a senior cat, where he is now a happy member of our family, thanks to Lily's Legacy."
Daisy
Daisy sent us this message: "Hi Lily's Legacy! I wanted to let you know that I am very happy here in Sebastopol! My owners love me so much and I think the cats do too (?). I love to take walks, go for rides, and eat. I also enjoy hanging out on my favorite bed and checking out all the birds & squirrels in the back yard. When my owners aren't looking I sneak around the house looking for food. I'm very good at it. Everyone stops us when we're walking to ask what kind of dog I am since I am a very pretty girl (and smart too!). Thank you for finding a loving home for me. It was meant to be! From DaisyDog."
Seca
|
A thank-you 'from' Seca: "Before Lily’s Legacy found me, I had a hard year, living in a shelter in Los Angeles, getting adopted, then getting returned. I was in bad shape physically, and my spirit was almost broken, but not totally, because people were able to still see what a great dog I am. Lily’s Legacy fixed me up big-time! Then, two nice guys came to visit Lily’s Legacy. They thought they could get away with taking me home for a long weekend after Thanksgiving. I immediately went into super-cute mode. By the end of Friday night, they were putty in my paws. By Sunday night, one of them was crying and pleading with the other to adopt me. I now have the life I dreamed of and more! I live in Tiburon now with my dads. I have a great place to live with a stunning view of SF. Some days, weather permitting, I lie outside on the deck, and gaze at the natural beauty, occasionally barking my head off at dogs I see to let them know this is MY place and these are MY dads. I curl up with the dads in their big bed every night. My snoring rivals that of dad # 2, while dad # 1 lies awake some nights but never complains. If I want a belly rub, all I have to do is roll onto my back, flash a cute look, and they come running. Cuddles, kisses, massages, treats, brushing my fur, having a song sung to me … whatever I desire just comes to me. Now I am thriving! My dads look pretty happy too. I’ll be celebrating my 11th birthday in April, so thanks to all at Lily’s Legacy for giving me a chance!" |
Moose
Here's an update from Moose: "My name is Moose and I’m 85 pounds of Coonhound-love. A tad overweight for my breed, but at 8 years old, I’m entitled to a little indulgence. As it is, humans always comment on my dashing good looks and regal charm. I met Robin after staying only one day at Alice’s place. After some get-to-know-ya time with Robin, I jumped in her car, and off we went to my new home in Oakland. I had no idea what to expect but had a pretty good sense that I’d be treated like a king. Call it animal instinct, but you can just tell when you meet your right human. Everyday she just hugs me as if I saved her life or something. She set up a couple of nice warm beds for me, in the bedroom and the living room, complete with my favorite blue blankie. She bought me a Curious George doll that has become my favorite new toy... made even better after chewing off the nose. (It looks more like a squirrel that way). We’ve settled in just fine these past couple months. Robin is working on my ruff edges, shall we say. She keeps giving me yummy treats when I listen. It’s sure fun for this old dog to try to learn a few new tricks. And I do love the snuggling."
Mackie
Mackie's forever mom writes: "When we met Mackie, my lovely dog Lilly was sad, and so was I. We had lost our dear fifteen-year-old Rufus. I had been looking at adoption sites for months for the perfect dog for our little family of a seven-year-old Flat-coated Retriever, five cats, and me, an older retired woman. When I saw Mackie’s beautiful face, I called right away. Within three days Lilly & I drove to Petaluma to meet him. When Mackie came into the yard, a tall, stately, beautiful and child-like black Flat-coated Retriever mix, all other plans about our next family member went right out the window. Now every day is a new adventure for Mackie and for us. He loves to ride in the car, cuddle close to Lilly and me, and snuggle with the cats. He stands next to my chair, puts his legs across my lap and leans his head against me in the most loving way. He can steal your heart in a minute. He is full of energy and loves running along the shoreline with Lilly and wading in the water and he is curious and playful about everything. He is a joyful spirit and Lilly and I are happy. We are grateful to Rufus for making sure that we would find just the right fellow to heal our hearts."
Valentino (Buddy)
Valentino is now Buddy and is doing beautifully. Here's an update from his forever mom and dad: "Our 'old guy' has turned out to be one of our best pals ever! Since I've retired, he is busy every day keeping an eye on me. Buddy watches TV with his dad and helps me in the garden. Thank you for a great experience – life with a senior dog. Buddy is very grateful for a home, and we are grateful for his loyalty and personality."
Oliver
Oliver's new mom writes: "Oliver came to us via Lily’s Legacy mid-July. The dog I first inquired about had been placed, but Alice said 'we have an urgent situation with a black lab, who is 9 years old and 20 pounds overweight'. I thought it over for a bit and called her back and said “I can help and commit to 6 weeks”. I just hoped my lab mix Zoe would be OK with him. Lo and behold this large bustling stubborn boy worked his way into our hearts. Beginning from day one he gave the toys that Zoe wouldn’t play with lots of attention and always seems to have one in his mouth. He has quite an array of toys now and occasionally will share. He also began a daily walking regimen and was put on diet food (being a lab, he doesn’t even know the difference, food is food). He is now 9 pounds lighter than the day he arrived and expects his 6:30 am walk every day. Oliver quickly became a part of our family and the love he gives to us is immense. When the 6 week commitment was over, no way was he going to go live with anyone else, so officially Oliver was adopted and I wouldn’t have it any other way."
Sadie
From Sadie's new mom: "When we first brought Sadie home, she was a bit of a chubby couch potato. While she still enjoys lounging and will never say no to a treat, she has also lost about ten pounds and has turned into a fairly active dog. She loves walks and the dog park but her absolute favorite is hiking. We were in Carmel a few weeks ago and she bounded her way through a record ten mile hike (and managed to find at least a half dozen piles of horse droppings to roll in- she was pretty proud of herself). She's not a particularly playful dog but she does enjoy learning commands so we've been steadily increasing her trick vocabulary (her current favorite is 'play dead', given that it's prime belly rubbing position). It's also been really cool to watch as her border collie instincts come out. She'll herd dogs at the dog park and loves to chase small animals in the woods. I have to admit that while I'm certain Sadie likes me quite a bit, it's really John that she has declared as her best of best friends. He works from home and she has become his stalwart programming buddy. Sadie is John's first dog and it's been really nice to see how taken they are with one another. In short, I really don't think we could have asked for a better dog. Thank you again for letting us take her home. It's been an awesome 8 months."
Sunny
From Sunny's new mom and dad: "Her name says it all! This bundle o’ joy, always with a smile on her face, is ready to be everyone’s best friend. All she wants to do is give us and everyone she meets, two & four legged alike, plenty of love. She greeted our two other senior Labs, Nate and Harley, with great big face licks! Within a day or so, she settled right in, totally accepted by our “boys”. They get along fabulously… playing, eating, and sleeping in close proximity. It seems like she’s always been with us. Sunny loves the car, walks, play, dinner (she is a Lab!!) & most of all being petted. We love how she rolls her head back, shuts her eyes, & widens her smile at our touch. She’s truly an ambassador for senior dogs, reminding us that it isn’t age that matters because we truly are as young as we feel. If you’re hesitant to adopt a senior dog because you’ll have him/her for less time: we send you this message: Don’t count the years, count the moments. Sunny has already given us a lifetime of memories.Thank you, Lily’s Legacy, for helping Sunny find her way to us & for all you do for the lucky “gray faces” that find their way to you."
Shasta
Shasta's new mom's daughter sent this update: "Shasta is thriving. He has two dog beds in the house (including one orthopedic, ultra lux one!), but prefers to sleep on the bed with mom - which he does all the time. Mom feels much safer now that he is in the house. He is a great guard dog and spends lots of time sitting in the front window peering out at the world. He gets several walks each day and she has even hired a dog walker to take him on longer walks three times a week. He is absolutely spoiled but my mom would have it no other way."
Tootsie
Tootsie's new mom writes: "Tootsie the black Lab sends her greetings and thanks for rescuing her and finding her a new home all in one day. In spite of her uncertain health she is happy and having a nice time every day. She has lost 37 lbs. and is a lean mean wagging machine. My husband and I thank you too. What a joy she is!"
Katie
Katie's new mom writes: "Dear Katie joined our family, including two senior, rescued Golden Retrievers, Hank and Daisy, just before Christmas, 2011. We hadn’t planned to add another four-footed soul to our crew! But there was no resisting Katie and her need to be loved and cared for! Off we went to Lily’s Legacy to meet her and that cinched it - love at first sight! Our gentle Katie came home to stay, welcomed by Hank and Daisy! It turns out that Katie, very quiet at first, has a streak of adventure inside her. She leads the others in keeping any stray soul walking by the front gate away from "her" territory and instigates rambunctious play with Daisy, our 12 year old Golden while Hank, our 11 year old Golden, watches with disdain. Katie & Daisy run gleefully through the house, chasing each other and wrestling wildly until they run out of steam. Once tired of play, Katie’s off to soak up the sun in her favorite spot by the back door. She follows me everywhere, our sweet "Miss Velcro". She is dearly loved & we are so very grateful that she is now part of our family. Dog beds fill our family room with little space for anything else; AND we wouldn't have it any other way!"
Missy
Cute, cute Missy was in the shelter for almost three weeks and was very forlorn. Then she got really lucky. A wonderful man called us and was looking for a senior lab to rescue. A little research and we found his girl. It was a perfect fit. Out she came from the shelter, straight to the vet for a check up and yes, a clean bill of health. Then her new dad picked her up right at the vet's office. Now she is in her forever home with lots of space to run around and a loving dad to cater to her needs. A happy, happy story for a very sweet girl.
Raj (AKA Ranger)
Raj's new mom sent us this update: "Raj has his daily routine. He is a yoga dog so he eats early in morning, walks and then goes to my yoga studio with me. All the students know him so he greets them and then takes his spot in the store front window where he rests while we take class. He is great with the class timing. When we finish our final breathing exercise he starts to howl and all the students smile and then go down for savasana. One student brings him Fuji apples which he likes very much. After class we’re off to the dog park so he can play with lots of his friends, then back to the studio where we teach two more classes and then home. He likes bike rides and he loves the beach so we go there as often as possible. He's known as the Hot Yoga dog and the "sweet one". Raj is super healthy - eats meat from one of my client’s ranches and eats fresh organic veggies. Our Vet says he's fit beyond words!!!"
Jenny
From Jenny's new mom: "I met Jenny (on left) in May. I fell in love instantly and she became a part of our family. My 3 1/2 year-old Golden, Takoda, had been missing his big brother who at 15 left us for Rainbow Bridge last year. Jenny has been a welcome friend to him though even at 11 she can be a bit bossy, which he takes in stride. They love to play and she can usually be found near him or hanging out where I am. Jenny is such a sweet girl and I can’t believe I have been so blessed to have her in my family and in my heart. She is smart, sassy, loving, and so gentle. She likes everyone she meets and is great with other dogs. She has gone to daycare with Takoda and they tell me she is right at home. She loves our morning walks and running after any toy you toss for her. She loves to sleep on the bed with me and Takoda and out of the three of us I think she sleeps the best. So thank you, Lily’s Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary for taking in this sweet girl and trusting me and Takoda with her."
Luke
Luke's foster, now forever, mom writes: "I do believe in divine happenings. I received the photo of Luke a month ago from a neighbor, a fellow animal lover. I was busy at the computer but took the time to open the attachment and read about "Luke." He had the most penetrating eyes! He captivated me right there and then. Of course my intention was to take this guy in until you could find him a permanent home. By the time I drove Luke home from the vet's I was in love with this sweet darling guy. He was very timid and shy the first day living with us, but gradually Luke became accustomed to me and my other animals, and relaxed. The fun began when I let him off leash and allowed him to run free up the fire trail in back of my house. He was transformed from an 11yr. old dog to a spirited pup, ears flapping in the breeze....howling at the turkey vultures and alas taking a dive in the duck pond.....he is also a great swimmer. Luke adjusted to my slippery floors, my two smaller dogs and a black cat. All the pets seemed to know this was a very special boy and he had won our hearts in 24 hours. Luke is well behaved, trained, respectful, kind and although probably an out door dog most of his life, he now shares the king size bed with me and the other two pooches. I'm in dog heaven..... Luke has brought a bright light into our lives. Adopting a senior dog has great rewards. I encourage any animal lover to get a senior dog........Luke is wonderful!"
Cody
A message 'from' Cody: "First I got very unlucky when my beloved human passed away suddenly. In one day, I lost my Dad and my home. I was very confused. But sometimes luck changes very quickly and the folks at Lily's Legacy were able to find me a wonderful new home. Now I have terrific new humans - Mom, Dad and brother - and three doggie siblings. They all love me! Wow! All this happened in 5 days. And in June our whole family is moving to the mountains where I'll have lots of space to play. My Mom thinks I'm so cute - even when I'm naughty. Here's a cute story she tells about me: "We have discovered that as soon as I / we leave the house by the front door where Cody is usually curled up on his nice comfy bed, he watches and then sneaks up on our living room chair. It's actually really cute because the chair is on the small side and Cody is on the large size, but he fits! Too funny! My son saw him do it so we then peeked in the window after leaving and there he went, up into the chair. Such a little sneak! Gosh, I love that boy! He is just too cute. I'm such a happy boy!!"
Rosie
From Rosie: "I'm a sweet senior girl who was abandoned and left on my own. Very scary! However, lucky for me Lily's Legacy knew just the right home for me, so I got sprung from the shelter and went directly to live with my new mom on a RANCH!! Wow, now I can play and sleep on my own soft bed right next to Mom's. I even have two new cat sisters who like to curl up with me. And my Mom is home most the time and takes me with her most the time when she goes out, so am almost never alone anymore!"
Bo
Bo's new mom writes: "Bo’s story is an unfortunate and all too common one and although his history can only be imagined, what we do know is that he was abandoned and ended up in a shelter like many other wonderful senior dogs. When he first came to me 10 months ago he was so lost and clearly just in a mindset of survival. A very well behaved boy, he did what he was asked and was just sort of....there. It is nothing short of wonderful what patience and tender care can coax from these gentle and dear souls. The day that he ran to me, leaping over the stairs from the deck to the grass brought tears to my eyes and an overwhelming happiness for him. It brings me joy to see him flourish in his new home with his new family."
